... I'm sick of the weekly occurance of my customers just randomly blurting out "damn you're so skinny".

It happened again yesterday. Other than blowing up at that all I can do is just smile and tell them to fuck off in my head.

So... I'm going to go get a gym membership tomorrow.

19 down, 19 a month at American Health Fitness about 3 miles down teh road.

My goal is 30 lbs by next summer of muscle mass on my chest and arms. I've NEVER, EVER broken the 140 mark weighing myself with just boxers on. When I see 165 (I'm 135, and have been since my junior year in high school), I'll be happy.

But then it'll be time for a new goal; working on my legs and gaining another 15 for leg and continued upper body mass.

I weigh less than you (and I'm assuming, am probably shorter), and have never felt the urge to go to the gym or anything, despite how many times I'm told to "eat a damn sandwich" or any other solution for my size.

I just love it when people try to tell me WHY I'm so small. They never seem to realize that my mother is 5'1, and my dad is 5'9, and both of them are really slim, petite people. So it would make sense that their children are slim and petite as well!

Exercise is great and all, but being skinny isn't terrible. There are certainly worse things to be.

It's not just about that. I get into things that I need to be bigger for while working.

I need to get to a phone jack on the wall... oh but it's behind a 200 lb L shaped desk sitting against the wall. There's no fucking way I can move it.

I can do 140 lbs on the end of my reps right now from my previous working out (that I did for free after I finished cleaning the clubhouse at my old job which is why I don't work out now), so 135 lb guy moving 140 lbs is easily achievable, But being 180 with a lot more mass, I can easily move desks and whatnot.

I'm tired of being threatened by my friends. 220 lbs, muscle, works out... etc. If I can get some weight on me, I can be a force to be reckoned with.

So in other words, this is just really what I want more so than it being about anything else. But being told I'm skinny and the wind could blow me away on a weekly basis... well we'll just call that the catalyst.

Well, I guess that's where you and me differ, since I'd just rather not reckon in the first place.

james I'm still going to give you shit about being skinny even if you put on 50lbs bud

That's ok, I just know that I can wrestle and I'll have some weight on me. I'll be able to put up a better fight.

Ok time to get serious. Do you want to get bulky or keep your thinness as you gain muscle?
I prefer to keep my thinness (it's kinda part of my personality)

It would not be fat you can get big with larger muscles like football players do.
Ok but you want to keep your thinness. That's good, I don't want you to be a meat head either. Go online and look for office training regiments for hockey players. I played hockey for many years and you can not be a huge person and play hockey. Watch one game in any major league for hockey, even college. All of them are strong people with plenty of muscle but they remain rather thin people. Plus since it will be a sport training schedule it will be rough and get you muscle quicker than you might think. You will get bigger but you will keep that thin persona you want.

do you have problems gaining muscle mass like you do with gaining weight??

if you do try creatine with your work out. works really really well. you will see results faster taking creatine with your work out. eat good amount of protein and sleep well. and eat well too. nutrition is a big part as well.

I used to be the same until I hit late 20's.

I was like a streak of piss.

I began training as a stomemason aged 19 and worked as a mason on the tools and lugging big lumps of rock around for 10 years and I only built a little muscle during that time.

Once I hit 29'ish I bulked right out and now have to control my diet to stop putting weight on. This is partly due to the fact I now do a completely sedentary job.

I am still by no means fat or over weight but I am a lot bulkier than I was when I was doing a hard work out each day at my job and it's not fat but mainly muscle.

Within a week of working out at that clubhouse I'd put on 5 lbs, and since I'm already like -10% body fat, I doubt it was fat at all. I think working out helps to lower my metabolism also.

james I'm so proud of you. you need to be at least 7% body fat if you are in good shape or at least 10% if you are not very active.

here's a couple tips for you I learned playing 4 years of the greatest american sport:

1) you can't put on 5 lbs a week working out. your maximum will be 1 or 2 pounds a week if you work out often enough (4-5 days a week). more is possible, but it probably won't be completely fat-free. The weight gained will directly depend on how much protein you consume or not consume. for example, for every pound you weigh, you need to eat at least 1 gram of protein. you weigh 135 lbs, so you need to eat around 150 grams of protein a day.

2) stretch before and after. if you don't stretch, you will wake up unable to move next day because your muscles will feel like rock (they will after you start your first week but will go away after that).

3) if you feel pain, just stop or you will hurt yourself. ever see those guys in the gym who scream while they squat? yeah, they are getting themselves hernia. I know your significant other is your hand, but no man wants hernia. for example, a virus could wipe out the whole planet except for you and some chick. and BAM you have hernia and the civilization is doomed. tough shit.

4) run or you will gain fat. OK I forgot that you need fat anyways, but just to let you know if you eat a lot and only lift, you will be buff but also fat. kinda like Bacon.

5) OK I'm not even going to say a fucking work about you smoking, but smoking reduces appetite. you will need to eat at least 3000 calories a day, and while smoking, that can be hard. but I don't know how your appetite is, so shit I dunno, don't drink soda (beer is OK...keeps you in shape for another great american sport--getting drunk) or other shit high in sugar. sugar is like empty calories.

6) ask JMilley. look man this and that, but he is 5'10 or 11 and 185. he knows more about lifting weights that I do about beer and overclocking computers, so just ask him for advice. or I will ask him. whichever works.

If you have any questions just ask me. I probably missed a couple of things but thats because you either already know them or the fact I didn't sleep last night. good luck!

PS Haus isn't bullshitting you about creatine, it really works. if puts more oxygen in your muscles so you can damage them more. oh and one thing, get plenty of rest, your muscle grow when you sleep not when you work out.

Smoking does not decrease my appetite. I know I've said that before. I just had two cigs on my way to and from the grocery store... and I'm hungry... again.

Right now I'm just trying to decide whether or not I want peanut butter, or a ham and swiss sandwich. :D

Oh and sugar is empty calories that I need to keep from getting all day migraines. I'll be eating more and more of the better things, but smoking is staying.

Oh and yes, I did put on 5 pounds in a week. My job was cleaning that clubhouse, so I was getting a lot more exercise than just doing the working out on the machines.

I even arm wrestled my brother a few days after that week and he could tell I had been working out some... so I weighed myself. I'd hit 139ish, but never broken 140 like I'd said.
