This was the first year 9/11 has barely been mentioned on the UK news. I saw the news this morning and this afternoon and it just got a passing mention. I also watched the children's news show and it wasn't mentioned at all.

It's not something I'm ever going to forget but it feels strange that already it's becoming a date in history and is no longer news worthy, if you see what I mean.

Discovery Channel has been airing 9/11 shows.

The media doesn't seem to take into consideration how hard it is for many to be reminded of 9/11. But on the other hand, it's better than us as a society in America to forget it.

I was in my second day of a temp job. We had computers on the plant floor with internet access, but weren't allowe to use them, save for break time, they were mostly used to enter information on our work.
Some people around me began talking about an airplane hittine one of the towers. I dismissed it as an unfortunate accident, not knowing it was a regular airliner. I was thinking private plane. Then, the news of a second hit came. Someone got the internet fired up on a computer near me and images of the smoke pouring from the first tower were shown. A second plane, the tower right beside the first one?? Something told me that this was no accident. The news of two other planes being hijacked bolstered my thoughts.
We continued with our work, but the plant was very subdued that day. This plant, where I worked, ironically, makes cargo handling fixtures that are installed in Boeing airliners.

Never forget, but don't give the perpetrators the satisfaction of knowing that it impacts on your daily lives. For those who lost loved oned, things have changed for ever, and support and sympathy is due. For the rest of us, the best response is to carry on, business as usual.

9/11 united us as a nation, for a time. From my point of view, society as a whole, is back to it's dog eat dog ways. We have become complacent and focused on ourselves with the mentality of "what's in it for me" - mindset. Sure, we pull together, albeit briefly, in taking time to remember 9/11, however, the unity isn't even a shadow of what it was on that dreadful day.

'Tis sad.
I agree 100%
