To answer you directly ... no your camera isn't shit and there's nothing wrong with it.

I told you a few posts ago that I thought you were blowing it out of proportion and could use software to clean up a bunch of it especially on the ISO 400 stuff. 1600 or more is stretching it as far as I'm concerned. The bottom line is you need to get to know your camera better. That's been said by more than one of us.

Post an image to let us see what type of grain you do have at high ISO settings

You can use ACR to reduce the amount of grain on both RAW files and .jpg by opening up both files using Bridge

attention people!

What I am asking is if my camera has an abnormally high grain at those ISO settings. If it has a substantially higher shitty grainy quality that would mean that there's something wrong with my camera.

I don't like using flash for something like this, and I know this amount of grain is not acceptable for what I am doing.

What I am asking is for you guys to evaluate the performance of my camera, not me.

I don't mean to be snarky, but you guys are telling me everything BUT what I wanted to know. Is my camera abnormally grainy?

I know ISO 3200 is high - I posted it so you could compare. :p

I also posted ISO 400. I can post more! They are still grainy as shit, and I don't think they should be. So is my camera crappy or what?

I know I could do longer shutter speeds, but then my model and everything in the shot would have to hold still for that much longer, and that's not acceptable in some situations.

I don't like using flash - I like the look of scenes at night - or in low light - I like the way the light looks. Flash would ruin it. :(

I wouldnt say your camera has "substantially higher shitty grainy quality" for what your camera is and how big your sensor is. I can barely see any grain in the picture you shot at ISO 400 and as for the night shot, you are going to see grain at that level especially when the shot is a night shot. If you are not going to use flash so that you can reduce the ISO setting as you wouldnt need that long a shutter speed, then you are going to have to use an ISO setiing as high as that and you are going to see alot of grain.

I already do open them in bridge before I open them in Photoshop - is that what you mean?

and I posted pictures! :p

The ISO 400 shot is bad. I can't use it in class. The print quality is horrible.

Do you think getting a better lens would help or would it be like putting lipstick on a pig?

Could you possibly post the pictures via photobucket so I can see larger versions of the pcitures? When we are talking about the issue of noise, large pictures are really useful to see what you are talking about because I cant actually see that much grain in the ISO 400 shot.
Oh, and what lens were you using? It could possibly be part of the problem...

What do you mean print quality is horrible? What dpi settings do you save before printing?

Um.... nope... I told you after I saw the two shots you posted.

Under the " Filter " menu you should see one for " Noise ". Try that one. Be sure to do it with a copy and not your original shot.

Maybe there is something worng with it...but I still cant see anything wrong with ur ISO 400 shot...

There's a slight bit of grain but as mentioned it's hard to tell with such a small image. The full meal deal would have been nice to see as well as run it through some software to remove the grain. I tried with her posts but they are much to small.

I suggested to janie that she send it in while it's still under warrenty after she's done everything she can by way of settings and the manual.

Yeh, it may be a problem with the camera but as u said, I cant tell how bad the photos are until I can see larger shots. Of cousre the night shot is going to be grainy - its a high ISO shot and its shot at night which is always going to show up grain. But we will see....

Especially when it was shot at 3200. Even with my 50D I wouldn't shoot it that high.
