"It seems that you assume this guy got his money in dishonest or at least abusive ways, and you've got nothing but a car collection to base it on."

"If he is the jackass you claim him to be"

Stop putting words in my mouth. I've all ready said if I was in this person's position, I'd be questioning my morality so don't try to turn this into my personal attack against a poor innocent billionaire. If you can't believe that, there is nothing more to say.

Making or possessing money is neither moral or immoral.
So you don't include the concept "greed" or "excess" in your definition of morality?

look at it like this......alot of those cars he owns are vintage but are in prestine condition,do you think its cheap to get that sort of work done?...somewhere down the line someone was paid to restore them

the house he lives in had to be built, thats costs money because builders have to be paid

the expensive furniture and other things in that house had to be bought

the wealth is being spread by supply and demand,he wants something so he pays to get it

its better that way over just giving hand-outs to some 40 year old sponger with 6 kids whos never done a days work in his life

I didn't mean to put words in your mouth & apologize. No, I don't consider the concept of excess as a moral construct, and while greed generally falls into the immoral category, having an excess of something doesn't necessarily equate to greed.

As I meant to say, without screwing it up by making a judgment of your motives:

Maybe he is paying more and giving bennies. The Google Guys can buys & sell the guy in your OP, and their people are some of the best-paid, best-pampered on the planet. You get what you pay for, and if you want really high quality, you pay a really high premium. The result is really high profits ... highest in history.

Whether the gov't is responsible or efficient with the money is not so important as the sacred right to own property, to be able to create something and call it your own. The guy presumably played by the rules and won - big. It is his to do with as he sees fit. [Regardless], the money will naturally flow back into the system, just not as quickly or forcefully as [some might] want. If he's not [a criminal and made his money honestly], then he's a far wiser steward of the money than anybody that has trod the hallowed halls of Congress in many a decade. Let him continue to make his money make more people rich, create more jobs, feed more mouths, and yes make yet more money. It's far better for the country than handouts or any government program I've heard of.

My point is that people should be allowed to choose what to do with the money they have earned. There shouldn't be a magic number beyond which some bureaucrat declares it property of the politburo. If the guy wants to build a car collection, a barbie doll collection, or just pile all the cash in the middle of the room and have a really expensive marshmallow roast, that's his right. It's neither moral nor immoral. It's just his. No one else is entitled to it when it's $30K; no one else is entitled to it when it's $30 billion.

A jealousy thread;)
Let the guy be rich,as long as he isn't a thief then whats the problem,so life has worked out well for him so he needs to be punished?

IMO we should be happy...guys like him pay most of the taxes..it is something along the lines of the top 1 percent pay half the taxes...I dont hear anyone whining about the rich getting ripped by the govt to help the socialists whining liberals..greedy shits just cant make em happy.
They whine and whine when they have moral issues...thats right these greedy socialists have moral issues as they think it is ok to steal from the rich and give to the poor....theres your morals.
Why dont some of you socialists volunteer to pay your share of taxes....lets have some morals..hypocrite liberals are every where they bitch and moan like little girls.

Granted all rich may not be honest and some may be a piece of shit, thats not usually the case though, however I do see dishonest whining liberals all the time, thinking the world owes them, the world owes them nothing, they owe the world for being the leaches they are.
This isnt aimed at the OP but those who favor socialism in general:eek

Rant over

Wikipedia: Greed is an excessive desire to possess wealth or goods;

Guys, thanks for the input, input which has blown me away. :) I'm comfortable with my assertion but am tiring of having to continually re-explain it. Most of the participants in this thread disagree with me. I accept your judgment at least in the context of this forum: when it comes to money there is no amount an individual can accumulate that you all would ever categorize as "excessive" or "greed". Additionally if it is "greed", greed and morality are compatible with each other. The most amusing replies are those that associate my questioning "excess" with my jealousy. I'm not. And based on the info I provided, based on his billion dollars, 5 of you are willing to judge this person as moral. That's a hoot. It was an unintentional trap, most likely push back to the nerve of suggesting you can have too much money. :D

Thanks!
