how old where your amd's? cuz i know in the earlier chips they came with shitty heatsinks...and yeah both pentium and AMD have weird ass # schemes for their processer...

So... then isn't it easier to just say that it's a 1.6 and not a 2.0? Lol, to me it sounds like false advertising. Plus, I've had plenty of cheap AMD processors and I remember most of them either fried or had weird convulsions with other hardware. I just don't like AMD that's all.

AMD doesn't have the same advertising as Intel. Ex; Intel Pentium 4 2.8 (runs a 2.80 clock speed) and AMD Athlon 2000+ (doesn't a run 2.0 clock speed, but does 1.67GHz)

AMD just names there chips that.

Athlon XP 2000+ operates at 1.67 GHz
Athlon XP 1900+ operates at 1.60 GHz
Athlon XP 1800+ operates at 1.53 GHz
Athlon XP 1700+ operates at 1.47 GHz
Athlon XP 1600+ operates at 1.40 GHz
Athlon XP 1500+ operates at 1.33 GHz

Meh, the AMD processors I had before were super cheap because my brother and I did not have the money to buy a decent computer. Some fried because the fans died and some died because my brother fooled around with them too much. But now that doesn't matter, we have a more-than-decent computer and it'll last a while.

actually, amd names / named their chips after what the equivalent would be on intel's chips. the speed advantage of having the amd's memory controller inside the processor gave the processor a bump in what seems like the intel would have.

for example, the athlon xp 2000+ seems to run on par with the intel pentium 4 2.0 ghz.

and the reason i said "amd names / named their ... " was because intel is dropping the speed naming convention. ie:

previous: pentium 4 3.0e ghz

current: pentium 4 590j

and the current intel naming scheme doesnt give the speed of the processor, which enables intel to do better marketing but mess around with the consumer's minds.
