Is Obama really going to destroy America?

I'm sorry if a topic similar to this has already been started. But basically, well... I just want to know what you guys think. Is Obama going to totally destroy the country within the next couple years? Is the economy going to be totally destroyed by him?

The reason why I am asking this is because one of my family members keeps talking about how Obama is doing things that are illegal and doing things that will purposely hurt and destroy the economy so that the government will have to take over everything in the US, and that this will be resisted and so civil war could break out. And it's like my relative is preparing for the worst, stocking up non-perishable food and even planning to run away from society and live deep in the woods somewhere if worst comes to worst.

Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of this, but I think my relative is just being ultra-paranoid. I am actually fond of Obama personally, and while I may not agree with everything he stands for (come on, can you safely say that you agree %100 with anyone in a position of leadership, all the time?) I really don't think he's going to destroy America. Obama is not Darth Sideous, after all.

Or even if Obama does make some poor choices, who is to say that a Republican could have done any better in office? The fact is, the economy problems have been going on for a long time, and I think it will take more than one man to fix them, regardless of whether or not the person in office is a Republican or a Democrat. And it may take a few presidents to help fix things, for all I know.

I think that if anyone is trying to wreck the country, it's these political factions--the Republicans and Democrats mostly--who keep on fighting when perhaps they should be trying to work together a little more.

Anyway these are just some thoughts. What do you guys think? Discuss :)

I don't think it's just Obama's fault that the economy is fucked. And no, i don't think he will destroy it, well, not him alone. It's the fact that the parties can't get along (as you alluded to).

We are not going to be destroyed by Obama. Your relative has drunk too much of the far right kool aid.

But he is going to set us back years with his policies the same as FDR.

The good news is there is always a chance he can screw it up bad enough fast enough that people will wise up and start voting for better people and get rid of the morons in charge on both sides of the aisle. I am not holding my breath though because voters here have shown an astounding ability to be stupid beyond belief

Do I think he can destroy America? No and certainly not on his own. Do I think he is helping destroy America? Yes. His idea of economics is twisted. I completely disapprove of bailing out/loans from the government. (I know Bush did this as well and I didn't approve then either.) If Americas largest corporation was about to fall apart and become nonexistent, then let it happen. Sell off the portions of the company that still return a profit. This is the way of life and business. Concerned about the employees of the company? Well the best of them will be hired by those that were once their competitors.

Obama’s economic stimulus plan is a joke. It’s exactly what the dem’s want though. They want the public to think that we need big government and that big government is there to save us. What happened to the thought that government was suppose to look to the people of its country, to serve them.

America could rebound out of this depression if one thing was done. Cut taxes. Cut taxes by half across the board and watch spending go through the roof. The stock market would rebound. Housing prices would become stable at an un-inflated price. Because of the large amount of spending that would occur the government would actually see an increase in tax revenue! It’s all simple economics. So you ask how would all this occur? Decreased taxes leads to larger profits through from lower prices and increased demand at the consumer level. The profits can be reinvested into capital which would create more jobs and increase competition. What does competition mean? Lower prices, new products, increased wealth and spending in the economy.

What does Obama’s plan do? Prolong the problem and creates inflation on the dollar. His plan is essentially a temporary subsidy to the American people. When the subsidy runs out so will the temporary economic boost that we will experience from it.

Obama’s ideas are socialism and he is leading this country to become a socialist state. I can understand how your relative feels. There are some very different and extreme points of view in this country right now, and the following statement has definitely come to my mind several times:

"When in the course of human events it becomes necessary..."

Another thing, the two parties in this country do NOT need to sit down and try to get along and compromise on issues. My current problem with the Republican Party is that they have compromised and are dragging the party towards the center line instead of focusing on our core beliefs and values. I want to see the Republican Party return to being a truly conservative one.

Whew, think I'm done for now.

So, whats the Patriots in Exile Club

It's something Sean Hannity coined after the republicans were handed their ass in the last election. Now a bunch of wannabe republicans cling to the phrase to make them feel like they actually have a cause.

It's funny that they weren't in exile while Bush was in office, cuz he was no conservative. :D

We were in better shape when Bush was in office. There wasn't as much of a need for the Patriots in Exile Club like there is today. Bush was more of a conservative than Obama could ever hope to be.

We were in better shape when Bush was in office? You've got to be kidding me.

So the complete mess the economy is in right now just happened since Bush left office?

We are in MUCH better shape now that we have someone in office that is actually doing something.
Does anyone remember what percentage of Bush's first term was spent on vacation? I believe it was around 25%... Yeah, that's MUCH better for the country...

I never heard the phrase before BBW started the thread as I never listened to Hannity on the radio and found better tv shows to watch at night.

your boy Obama is starting to lose some of the support he had. Some big names are having second thoughts. Tell me again how are we going to pay for this? The republicans suck. It will be conservatives that right the ship after Obama and the democrats get done dumping money into their pet projects.

Did you notice in his speach today how he neatly back tracked on earmarks. :D
Earmarks are apparantly ok as long as they go to govt programs. :24:

Ah ya gotta love a good con artist when they are good at it. And you still think a permit is really necessary to apply paint to a curb to indicate an address. No wonder we are sinking faster than the Titantic. :24::24:

I attempted to look up that stat for a few minutes and didn't find anything that back up that statement. Now if you think because they go to their ranch that they are truly on vacation, then that just shows ignorance. I remember several press interviews that were done from his ranch. Since you are throwing stats around lets take a look at this one:

52 weeks in a year with 5 working days a week means you have 261 days of work and 105 days for the weekend. Consider most people have 2 weeks of vacation time so that leaves you with 247 days to actually work not including any holidays. Over a 4 year term you have 988 days to work and 476 days away from work. So if he spent 25% of his time on vacation in his first term, then he's working more than most people.

Just because somebody is doing something doesn't mean it's doing any good.

Bush is by far not my favorite president, but you have to give credit where credit is due. He's not a true conservative by definition but he has some conservative ideas and values.

And Sean Hannity's coin phrase was Conservatives in Exile.

The Club was first called Conservatives in Exile but BBW changed it.

Bush was abysmal. And if you think he was conservative then you would be a left leaning moderate. He followed the religious right lead on those issues those nuts wanted but other wise was far from conservative.

He and the religious right have done immeasurable harm to this country with the way he botched things.

That is not giving the left a free pass. Those morons just threw gas on the fire once they got control of the fuel

Bush and Republicans in general want to grow government to force everyone to act in accordance with their views.

Obama and Democrats in general want to grow government to force everyone to act in accordance with their views.

Please, God! Give us someone who wants to prune gov't interference back so as to allow us to act in accordance with our own views!

Oh I have no idea how anyone can actually think that Obama is doing better....At what? And compared to what?

By the standards of the Bush administration, I am doing a better job running the country, so that mantra isn't going to have a lot of shelf life, bottom line is this, Obama's being able to blame Bush for everything isn't going to last long.

Blaming Bush for the defecit, then tripling it shows where this administration is going, and the proof that these spending packages do not work, is the markets, overseas markets have lost confidence that we can continue to spend, and the Obama administration is slowly proving they will do anything to stifle free trade.

If anything Bush taught us a lesson...."Stimulus Packages" do not work, but typical of the Democrats...They are always smarter.

Obama says "We won't raise taxes" well no he hasn't yet, but inflation will more than adequately compensate for that.

States that do not have an income tax are now discussing bringing them back, like my state, they are talking about bringing back a state income tax, they are going to have to...Which is exactly what Obama wants, he also wants to continue handing out money to states for one reason and one reason only....To cntrol what the states do, blur the lines between the government, and the state. Democrats hate any type of independence, it frightens them.

Tax ammunition more that'll stop crime, rob from the wealthy so the poor won't need to get jobs, continue to dump money into the market so eventually we will all have to rely on the government, because nobody else is going to continue to spend money in a market that has been devalued by excessive circulation of money.

Use all the statistics you want, blame Bush all you're doing is trying to make yourself feel better......It's going down the drain folks...Who cares who's fault it is now....

It's like a preagnant woman...You can't un-fuck them

I love the back tracking on earmarks. First he says it was Bush's bill so he let it pass this time. Then he says ear marks to private entities are bad because they are ripe for corruption. But looks like if an earmark goes to a govt project it is ok.

What a friggin joke this guy is. I wish Hillary had won. At least the Clintons had some common sense when it came to the economy. Unlike this socialist asshat
