Is LOTR A Rip Off Of The Bible?

Having read The Silmarillion - I'd say the first parts are very similar to the Genesis creation account and so on.

I told a very religious friend that I thought The Silmarillion read like Genesis, very boring and dry. Needless to say, I got a very dirty look from her and she very quickly changed the subject.

Well, I am a man of faith but I don't take offence to that so don't worry :D

I do agree though that the first portion (the creation account) of The Silmarillion is certainly not the most exciting thing Tolkien has written ;)

It for sure gets better though of course :)

I couldn't get past that part. I've heard great things about it but I don't think I'll ever be able to finish it.
