All life is sacred, and none is more sacred. However I do believe that some life is worth more than other life, but I'll get back to that point later. The main reason why a lot of (stupid) people freak out over a baby dying due to abortion, but don't think a thing about the many people that die daily is because of the way the brain processes things. It is much easier to process and relate to one poor, sad, defenseless, little baby dying, than for it to process the multitude of deaths that occur every day. It's kind of like when you watch a super action packed movie and there are so many deaths that you just stop taking the movie seriously at all. Yet you can watch a more realistic movie where only one person (or in the case of old yeller, one dog) dies, and you can cry your eyes out. When your body gets seriously injured you go into shock, when you get a small burn it hurts like a motherfucker. (btw I'm pro-life, but I really think some of my fellow pro-lifers are idiots...)

Small information is easier to process than a multitude of information. Now to my point that some lives are worth more than others. If I had to decide between a genius scientist's life and the life of someone who does nothing but troll on the internet in his mom's basement, I would choose the scientists. This is because some lives are in fact worth more than others. We've been taught that life is sacred and shouldn't be measured, but to maximize the protection of said sacred life this is sometimes necessary. Some people will end up impacting the world more and ultimately help save or increase the quality of said sacred people. Life is sacred and shouldn't be measured, but sometimes it has to be.

And the reason that people don't give to kids in Africa as much as they should is another thing with the whole brain processing thing. It's a lot harder to visualize and feel the need of someone so far away from you. I mean if we get off our lazy asses and think harder then it makes sense, but to the casual couch potato you think "how am I going to really help them?" and You usually don't see how your efforts affect the children. We are a very visual people, so sometimes sending money in the mail doesn't really register in our mind as making a difference. Dumb people are dumb.

I guess it's like the starfish story.

THE STARFISH STORY
One day a man was walking along and noticed a boy picking up things and gently throwing them into the ocean. When he got close enough to the boy he asked, “What are you doing?” The boy replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son”, the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of
beach and hundreds and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a
difference.”

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another
starfish and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man,
he said………..”I made a difference for that one!”
