Well? Is it?

Why are we so desperate to protect the lives of unborn children, but indifferent about the thousands of adults who die every day in horrible conditions?

Are some lives more sacred than others?

I guess it's like the starfish story.

THE STARFISH STORY
One day a man was walking along and noticed a boy picking up things and gently throwing them into the ocean. When he got close enough to the boy he asked, “What are you doing?” The boy replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son”, the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of
beach and hundreds and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a
difference.”

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another
starfish and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man,
he said………..”I made a difference for that one!”

Frankly, it would seem to be the image. Ultrasound images, pictures of cooing babies- that hurts. That makes people outraged..."We must outlaw abortion! Criminalize it! How could anyone KILL that beautiful child!??!?"

Then you see pictures of black skeleton children in the dust, looking sad..."ehhh, those people aren't like me, they look like aliens, their government is corrupt, it's horrible for them but what can I do??"'

This is where I kind of lose faith in the intelligence of our species. We just...we think dumb shit sometimes.
We're biased and foolish and full of contradictions.

All lives are sacred.

In my opinion, I believe the outrage about abortion stems from choice.

A person dying of starvation or disease in a third world country does not have a choice. They are born into conditions beyond their control. Time and again different groups from industrialized countries have tried to help those who cannot help themselves only to be stymied by corrupt governments or thieves. That does not mean we should not try to help the less fortunate.

That's understandable.
Still though, I don't think we have our priorities very straight, and I do think it's common to give up on the living.

I would first like to state that I do give money to help animals and children alike so I can actually claim and stand behind that I think life is sacred. I donnot hold the same sense of duty to grown adults because they're grown with good minds and have to rely on themselves. Children donnot have the privilege or that opportunity.

I think the reluctance to help children in Africa is because people donnot think it will really make a difference and feel more turned away by the reality than to say they just donnot care.

I donnot see an ultrasound and gain some emotional attatchment just because it's a baby therefore abortion should be illegal, I know alot of religious fanatics do, though. And I wish they wouldn't represent the majority of pro-life persons like myself.

I agree, it seems small problems are often prioritized because they're less intimidating.

I may very well be wrong, but I get the sense the majority of the pro-life movement is tied to religion. I don't know many pro-lifers who emphasize the value of life for life's sake in their objections, but moreso their hatred for the women who get them and the disapproval of the act by their god.

From that angle, it's ugly.

It definately is religious-tied. My motivation to stop abortion is because I see it is a back movement for humanity, not a forward one, as well as my personal pov for life. It seems to me we're bandaiding the problem by ignoring it rather than stopping it almost entirely from the roots.

Normally, I wouldn't try to control another person's actions by pushing my opinion on theirs, which is exactly what I do when I vote against abortion, but of course I think it's a dangerous thing and it's the only thing I see worth voting for.

Ya it's certainly all opinion and ideology. It's funny, I see abortion being potentially illegal as a dangerous thing that moves humanity backwards. All beliefs. But undoubtedly it is too important to brush aside as just opinion.

I think all sparks of life have value (even cops lol Natasha)
I think even evil at birth but unknowingly evil
I would wish life on all first sparks even if it were a difficult one
as long that life would want to be alive or is unknowing of making a choice
There are however circumstances beyond mankind's help
the extremely deformed and nonfunctional

:homo:

Life is cool and we should appreciate it, but to me life is not sacred. We get it, we lose it, everything keeps going.

The "we get it" part is key, we can say without contradiction how we are born, there is no heavenly gift here, so it is not sacred in the true sense
