Of course it's a sport. They are competing. Therefor a sport.
I just happen to like this sport more than any other.
Spelling Bees are competition!! As is poker and bored games!! Are they sports?
To me, a sport requires physical conditioning, and an argument can be made that they take on some g-forces that the body needs to get used to, but they are sitting down for four f'n hours.
It isn't a sport.
See, he gets it:clap
I call it Motorsports....As in the motor is doing the performing![]()

"Sport is a physical activity involving large muscle groups, requiring strategic methods, physical training and mental preparation and whose outcome is determined, within a rules framework, by skill, not chance. Sport occurs in an organized, structured and competitive environment where a winner is declared."
Using this definition, NASCAR is undoubtedly a sport. Large muscle groups are certainly used and strategy is a bigger part of racing than you might think (the decision to pit or stay on the track can often be the difference between finishing first or 15th). Obviously, physical training and mental preparation are a huge part of auto racing, the outcome is determined within a rules framework and I don't think anyone can argue that NASCAR drivers aren't skilled at what they do.
I agree, accept the large muscle groups part. You do realize they are sitting down? Yes they deal with g-forces, as once being a flight control avionics specialist on F-16 fighter aircraft I know a few things about g-forces and what they do to the human body. However, they are strapped in very tight anf the g-forces their bodies endure are minuscule compared to a fighter pilot.
Sammy hun....I'm going to agree to disagree. Coming from a racing family and actually being involved in it I have quite a big idea of what it takes to be a race car driver. You need to be well in shape to be able to handle everything when behind the wheel when it comes to NASCAR. They definitely need to be in shape incase of accidents...steering...handling when being bumped. Some weakling or one who isn't in shape would not be able to handle a car going that fast and being in a wreck or probably wouldn't be able to even control the car in a safe manner at that.
Fair enough, I just get kinda picky in what I call a sport anymore with ESPN showing Spelling Bees, darts, Bowling, and poker and passing them off as sports were my sport gets demonized.
