Knowing someone with autism doesn't make you an expert. And it's ridiculous to suggest that a symptom of autism is "getting lost". That can happen to any child. You have to be carefull.

There are no real "Experts"

And I don't know someone....I have an autistic child.

And I'm pretty much not going to debate;)

There's nothing to debate. Would you rather your child had autism or something like that bubble baby syndrome? The fact that your kid has autism doesn't mean he or she is in agony every minute of the day. There are conditions where the victims arn't that lucky.

A kid doesn't wander off because he has autism. If your child is autistic, you should be more carefull. That's common sense really. You could always purchase a lead if your parenting skills suck that badly.

Ad for leading a productive life, there is no reason why high level autistics can't be put to work in fields or anything like that.

ok are you serious? i have heard alot of things about you Valentin and was gonna give you a chance to prove to me that you are not such the ass that everyone says you are. however, just by reading some of the posts from yesterday and today i can only come to the conclusion that you have a SERIOUS mental problem. you are one of two thnigs: extremely stupid or just like to piss people off. as for autism, you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY should read up and LEARN the facts before you post something that you have no idea about.

i guess in your opinion people with cancer or any type of serious medical condition just aren't normal.

1 in 3 people will develop cancer in their lifetimes. So at the moment, it's not normal to have cancer. When that figure rises to 2 in 3, it will be more normal to have cancer than not.

It is not normal to be born with autism. That's a fact. It's not normal to be born with the massive mental capacity i was blessed with. So i wouldn't consider myself normal either. But fortunately for me my abnormality makes me better than the norm. I can't really say the same for autistics. And anyone that disagrees, having said that autism is so terrible, is a hypocrite.

The human body is meant to have two legs. Being born with two legs is normal. Being born with one leg is an abnormality.

There is a normal way for your mind to be as well as your body.

And again, it's weird that people would attack me for saying that being autistic isn't normal, and then go on to attack me for saying autism isn't that bad.

If it is that bad, then how can it possibly be normal? It can't. This is just a witch hunt.

I have no idea why no one likes me. For me, it is a bigger mystery than the meaning of life. But only because i know the meaning of life.

I have an idea. You look for peoples buttons just to push them. You probably dont really think this harshly about autism. But you play devils advocate just to get people worked up. You have fun doing it. Thats probably why people dont like you man.

Autism is much bigger than you realize. Granted, our kids dont have the 'bubble syndrome' HOWEVER, there are several autistic kids that cant talk, walk, communicate at all. they are basically prisoners in their own minds. How do you expect to put an autistic child to work? If they cant understand something, how can they understand a job?

Example: My son is autistic.. He knows that if you walk infront of a car, that you could get hit.. However, he doesnt realize you could die or get hurt. They dont understand!

So having that said.. They may see something outside (and say their parents are using the restroom or something) - so the child is curious and walks outside.. then he follows whatever it is that he saw.. he doesnt realize that he is getting lost or that he is even leaving his house.. He doesnt realize that at all. Does this make any sense to you?

Now, with that being said. Considering the fact that Evan and MYSELF, BOTH have autistic children, I really suggest you not talk so poorly about them or make it seem likes its no big deal because it IS a big deal. There is alot more to it than people realize - you really dont know until you have been there. I had NO idea about autism at first and probably felt the same way as you.. However, I know now and I know how hard it is to deal with and how difficult these childrens lives will be. I know that My son is the best thing that has ever happened to me, no matter the fact that he may never hold down a job.. Thing is, we will do the best thing for my son and make sure he always has all the help he needs so that maybe one day he can do the things that he is destined to do in life.

I don't think my views are that extreme at all. I was joking about putting them to work in a field (even though i do think it's possible).

I'm not saying that autism doesn't effect peoples lives, just that there are far worse things.

I see what you're sayin. But you're on a site that is aware of autism. Alot of people here deal with autistic children on a daily basis. There are also alot of members that meet up for charity events and such to support awareness. I would say its best to just let it be bygons and not argue your point further. While I do agree that everyone should be allowed to express their views, autism is nothing to make light of. And that statement, joking or not, was pretty harsh dood. You gotta admit.

I'm not saying they should be rocket scientists. You really don't need to understand anything to do the jobs i had in mind. Like pulling a plough.

Example: My son is autistic.. He knows that if you walk infront of a car, that you could get hit.. However, he doesnt realize you could die or get hurt. They dont understand!

Okay. You have a responsibility to make sure that he doesn't do that, the same way that any other parent does.

So having that said.. They may see something outside (and say their parents are using the restroom or something) - so the child is curious and walks outside.. then he follows whatever it is that he saw.. he doesnt realize that he is getting lost or that he is even leaving his house.. Yes. Does it make sense to you? Do you realise that you have a greater responsibility to your child than most parents would? If you do your job, your child wont get run over. It takes more effort to look after a horse than a hamster.

I have no idea who evan is, but cool. I wish you all the best.

I Think That Both Sides Of This Are Right, Autism Is Bad But There ARE Worse Things.
Autism Is Awful But Most People Who Are Are Really Quite Lovely, I Have A Friend Who Has A Severely Autistic Boy And He Is A Handfull But Is Blissfully Happy Most Of The Time!
