Inmates Cashing In.

Its bad enough that its the taxpayer who pays for their incarceration and now they are filing for refunds. Refunds that actual taxpayers paid in. I hope the IRS is catching this before anything was actually paid.

Also, you're arguing with the mindset that criminals have committed a crime, so we should throw the book at them and make their lives miserable. Another thing. There's plenty of criminals walking around who have committed crimes that just haven't been caught. Only a small fraction of crimes are reported, investigated, go through the courts,and result in a conviction and prison time. So in essence, there are a lot of people walking around scott free while those who do get caught, in your opinion, should be punished severely. There's a divide there.

Prisons in America ARE entirely too comfortable, I don't give a fuck how we are viewed as a society, we shouldn't go easy on these people just to make ourselves look "civilized" to the rest of the world.

And what does the fact that some criminals walk free have ANYTHING to do with my opinion on how criminals should be treated? OBVIOUSLY I would like to see these people punished just as severely, there is no divide.

I don't understand how being isolated from your family and friends, stripped of your freedom, and looked down on as the lowest of the low by society is comfortable. Add on top of that the constant fear of being attacked or something. Please explain to me how that is comfortable.

The part about criminals walking around free was just thrown in there to put it in perspective. I'm not saying that criminals in prisons should be let free or something because there are people who get away with their crimes. I'm just saying that there is a divide in the amount of punishment that different people receive for the same crime.

Compared to prisons in the rest of the world it IS comfortable, we are paying for these people to have things that many of us don't even have, I wish I had gym equipment, free tv and shit.

My god, are you people aware that the majority of prisoners arn't murderers and rapists, a lot of them are ok people who just made a mistake or got a bit too greedy. Do you still subscribe to your bread and water regime for people who have been locked up for driving offenses, petty theft, fraud ect? Hardly dangerous, terribly evil people are they?

Yup, I agree :nod:They have Prisoner's advocates too to fight for their rights and seems like they can get away with whatever they want and even sue the State/local county if they feel violated even for very petty things. They are given too much privileges which i think is ridiculous :( I know coz i deal with them everyday in a State Detention Hospital.

I totally agree :nod: Here in California alone. the State Facility/Detention for Pedophiles and Paraphilias is a state of the art building. The Prisoners have like a mall with Grill/Cafe,Barber shop,Fitness center, Social Hall with large flat screen TVs. They have computers too in their library. Those who are released out of the facility and exposed to how hard it is to live in the outside world- purposely violate/break their parole restrictions to go back in. Imagine free Board and lodging, medical services etc. Who can beat that ?? :willy_nilly::willy_nilly::ninja

I may agree with you on this that NOT all prisoners are bad like murderers/rapists etc. You are right :nod: in a way and hence the Prison System have adopted Rehabilitation and Reformation regimen for most of them. Maybe the members who had been reacting to this topic are just expressing their frustration NOT necessarily directed to ALL Prisoners but maybe majority of repeat offenders or Felons who take advantage of the System. I work with a State Detention Facility and I meet a lot of those Prisoners whom as you say had made minor mistakes . And you have made a point of course. Thanks for your belief in those Prisoners who are willing to be Reformed. Kudos to them who do :clap:clap

Unfortunately though, most of them don't :(:(

This.

It's not a hard, or even modern and outlandish concept; it started 200 years ago with the Jermy Bentham's prison reforms in England. Criminality stems from perceived marginalisation. The feeling of being outside of a civilization, whether for financial or other reasons.

The worst thing you could do is lock away offenders and treat them with nothing but contempt. It only exacerbates their seclusion, and facilitates an even more troublesome re-entry into society.

sometimes it's not so easy to see that from the couch and though the screen.

fortunately, for them and the taxpayers, the punishment fits the crime, offenders like you speak of are not the ones that abuse the system.

in fact, often their benefits may get cut off while they're down and cause their families problems.
