By insinuating that I am acting like a 9 yo, if I want to ignore someone, that is my prerogative, not yours or this site, they are doing the same to me, so why not call them 9yo, oh I remember you don't have the guts

Anyway, getting away from the school playground child and back to the OP, no, I doubt I would have followed Jesus, it sounded like it was a lot of pointless, hard work to me.

Right I've had 10 minutes to think.

The thread is being reopened, under one condition. It stays on topic within what the OP mentioned, would you have followed Jesus? Any more of the childish crap which has taken up the last couple of pages and I'll do something mod-like.

It's a good topic. I don't think I would have followed him because I'm naturally a leader, but time and place and all that.

then why wouldn't you question the authority? or do you think at the times the apostles were scared to do so?

To be honest, if he had picked me as one of his disciples, I don't know if I could of chosen that way, in hindsight as too what I've been told is the reason why I follow him

Did Jesus have actual authority or were people just so much in awe of him that they did everything he said?

I think that's also why the apostles may have been scared to do so, because he's like this other-worldly being. Or portayed as being such.

I don't think everyone held him in such awe

we never get emotion from the readings of Jesus so one could assume that his followers were in awe or maybe even too scared to test him. But if they treated him like one of the guys and not as the Son of God things may have been different?

This is true, look up Judas Iscariot.

@PJ, I think the disciples may have treated him like one of the lads when he got them free booze. But I suppose the son of god thing always hung over him also because it's not something you'd forget.

Conversation we will never hear
Apostle #1: Jesus, whatsssssupppppp?
Jesus: Nada man, just a chillin' whasssup for tonight?
Apostle#1: Nada..was thinking of going in town to get some wine and fish
Jesus: Stop by my Mom's crib and I'll see if I can get out of this "Son of God" thing whatever the f**k that is...

I think that they thought of him as the Christ and therefore spoke from absolute authority. Judas is a different question, and is something I don't know. The rest didn't stay with him out of fear, but out of love. The words he spoke were from the Father, and they wanted to witness it. I think they thought it was an awesome honor to be picked among the few to witness the messiah.

I really don't think the apostles really understood what he was about. especially during the last supper...when he spoke to them about the new covenant....

Of course, Peter was the first to bring it out....

Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, "Who do people say I am?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets." "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ." Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.” (Mark 8:27-30)
