Incorrect, Anglican was formed under Henry VIII, who followed the preaching of Martin Luther (not related to MLK)

The church of English used to be Catholic but then Henry VIII as head of the church, in the English reformation, split with the pope, was ex communicated and turned the religion protestant.

I probably left out some smaller branches. No offense. I'm just counting the main branches of Christianity after the religion was synthesized into a single trunk by Constantine. Pre-Constantine was the root system of Christianity which was also very diverse.

Are you referring to all churches, both denominational and non-denominational? Or are you referring to just the Catholic / Roman Catholic church? It was the Roman Catholic church that Jesus had issues with. By asking that, I'm not picking on Catholics. I know many Christian Catholics.

I worded that wrong Sky...sorry. I meant it as a question and didn't give it a second glance. Thank you for correcting me. I was basing that "should have been a question statement" on the fact that Judea was under Roman rule and the currency in use was Roman coin. The early church "the temple" forsook the teachings of Jesus and those of the New Testament for the traditions of Rome and pagan religions. Those in power took over Christianity as Jesus taught it and changed it to more closely match the political and relgious systems of the day.

However, the idea of the "pope" did not exist from the beginning of church. It was not until several centuries after the death of Christ that the church began to form the "Roman Catholic Church" 313 AD, 318 AD when the church began to adopt governmental structure that mirrored it's predecessors and the Empire, and 380 AD in which it was declared the state religion.

Add: The Roman Catholic Church contends that it's origin is the death, ressurection, and ascention of Jesus Christ in approximately 30 AD. The Catholic Church proclaims itself to be the Church that Jesus Christ died for, the Church that was established and built by the Apostles.
