hey what shutter speed?

if you take your shutter speed - say 1400 and you cut off the last 0, you get the speed in mph

so 1400 is 140mph
1100 is 110 mph and so on

so what shutter speed? we will be able to tell the wing speed

I'd love to get hummingbirds over here. I knew they were a bird of the Americas but I always thought they were in the hotter climates. Tough little buggers, arn't they! Nature can never cease to suprise and amaze you!
We have parrots in the wild where I live now, something that only a few years ago, the most experienced ornatholigist would had laughed at the idea of.

Tv 1/250Sec.
Av F6.3
ISO Speed 400

I took the shot without the sun shining on it. The feeder is located on the north side of the house and because of all the trees we have on the yard I only have a very small window of time to get a shot with natural light and I need that badly to up my shutter speed. I haven't taken the time to figure out how to use my flash at higher shutter speeds so I need to sort that out. I'll be playing with it a lot this weekend so we'll see where it goes.

Hummingbirds have been a part of Canada for as long as I can remember. They'll stick around until sometime in September. When the young are able to fly it's a lot of fun to watch them fight over the feeder. They are quite aggressive considering their size.
