Just found out today that my job will require me to be officially "badged" for full access at Hartsfield-Jackson airport. From what I understand the process is not going to be a lot of fun. Pretty deep background checks, training and testing for security measures, possibly a psychological screening, etc. Anyone else ever been through this process?

I had a TS/SCI from the Air Force, that wasn't a fun background process. They went and bothered my Kindergarten teacher.

I have not been through that, but I can't imagine it will be much fun. Once you make it through it, though, I'm sure it's worth it. ;)

Does this mean you could get me a job at Hartsfield??? :ninja

My company won 4 of the contracts to place new restaurants in the Terminals - and two of the four will be versions of the restaurant where I'm the chef. Even though it's technically a different company that will OPERATE them, I will be serving as a consultant during the building and training phases, and maybe working ongoing as well. I will be coming and going from there quite a bit.

Kinda cool that my place will be getting that kind of exposure, though. One of them is in the new International Terminal that opens in May-June

Damn... I'm gonna be flying through there at the beginning of May. Would've been cool if it was open then.

I've been through that rigid process b4 i started working for the State detention. Yup, it's not a fun process at all....but you would be very glad by the time you pass, of course.

Good luck Tang :D

The International Terminal one was scheduled for May 15, but as usual with ATL, not enough people got to put their hands in the cookie jar so there are lawsuits flying everywhere about the awarding of the contracts and the process. So we're expecting a slight delay. The other one will be in the Concourse C - which will be the main Southwest Airlines concourse once they've finished taking over AirTran. That's the one that will be the big money maker for us. Probably won't get that one going until late in the year.

I've no idea what that involves, but good luck with it :) it sounds like an interesting opportunity.

American Express and Boston Logan's airport and the Massachusetts State police all did separate background checks and fingerprinting before offering the position to the lot of us (initial crew of 23) so, that';s nothing new if you have nothing to hide....or do you?

I was involved in a little bit of recent construction at the Atlanta Airport. OMG WHAT A PITA! I feel like I was anally probed daily and I wasn't even in Atlanta. Beyond stupidity reigns supreme.

LOL, nothing to hide. Just not a fan of wading through mountains of red tape. If I could list every Government agency there is in order of how much I loathe everything about them, TSA would top the list by a wide margin. But I guess I'm gonna get to know them a little better now :\

sometimes you have to accept the fact that your every move is under a microscope and anything they find they can be the sole judge if they want to give you the power of the badge. now mind you I do not have full access to all areas of the airport, just some of the places that eventually lead to my work. there are still places that my badge will not work and it just says rejected.

Don't try to get into areas you're not supposed to be PJ!!!

At my job, one of my responsibilities is giving badge access to people and granting them specific areas. The program has a running log of access denials/access approvals and is updated real time. So, if someone tries to get into an area they aren't supposed to be in, it's automatically noticed.
