I'm Fostering Another Dog

I think I have an addiction. I need to stop.

This one is a Rottie. 3 years old - Heartworm positive. He was going to be put down today, but I called them.

We were going to pick him up today, but they whole city that he was in (small one outside of my town) was shut down because of an escaped prisoner.

So we will be getting him tomorrow....I hope he likes me :) and my dogs.

I kind of feel bad for my dog because he wants my attention 24/7 and he's old. He really doesn't like it when I bring home other dogs.

Pictures to come!

Living in the country..... You wouldn't believe how many kittens, cats, dogs are 'dropped' off. :(

Lucky for me.... the farmer across the way has over 100 acres and just as big a heart. Otherwise.... I'd have a few more pets. :)

I think they're only aggressive if brought up that way...most dogs will be aggressive when provoked:nod:

Good for you girl....was he the one on your FB page?

yep! that one!

I have a sore spot in my heart for Rotties because my friend who died had one. After he died they put her down for almost no good reason - she was the sweetest dog I have ever met.

you should adopt some ;)

Me personaliy. i don't want any pets but my Mom and sister say other wise. (they both have together) a equivalent of 1 dog and 12 cats 1 fish and random other animals they get there hands on. i don't know maybe a stray bird they see outside (they gotta pick it up and slam it in a cage to keep and name it) i don't get it. i have come to start to hate them for it. i don't like "owners" that dont take care of there animals. i chose not to have anything to do with them. because i dont want the extra work that goes into "owning a animal/pet" i like things simple.

He is heartworm positive. I have had a few people tell me they would never adopt a dog who had heartworms.

Which to me is bullshit. Ignorant...whatever - it makes me mad.

This one girl said she wouldn't adopt a dog who had had heartworms because she didn't know how it would affect the lifespan of the dog.

Well let me tell you being euthanized definitely has an effect of the lifespan of a dog!!!

It took all my self control not to say that she was being a fucking bitch who is ignorant.

worms contracted from an infected mosquito (which gets infected by biting an animal with heartworms)

the worms grow in the heart and will eventually make the heart explode

as they die they sometimes land in the lungs, so if you have the dog "treated" for heartworms, the treatment kills the heartworms and floods the lung with worms - which is dangerous because the dog can stroke out and drown in worms.

or you can just put the dog on preventative and it will prevent new worms from growing and the old ones will eventually die in a few months.

Ah, so it's treatable. I agree with your statement about ignorant people, then. :ninja

Rottweilers are beautiful dogs.

I am rethinking it. I mean I am definitely going to do it, but it's so peaceful in my house right now.

Tomorrow night I will have to watch the dogs and make sure they all settle in, and make sure the new dog is house broken and won't chew things...yay. :(

Sometimes I wonder what I get myself into. I just hope I find him a home soon.

I went today to pick him up, and the pound people were gone - they had told me they would meet me there at 4:30/5. We waited til 6pm. they were a no show.

But I saw him through the fence and fell in love. I want to keep him now. But I can't afford him, and it wouldn't be fair to my dog.

Here are some pictures. He's doing well :)

He's SOOOOO sweet!!!! We are taking him to a fundraiser they have in the park tomorrow for the local animal shelter (perfect opportunity right?).

I am going to make a flyer to hand out to people so maybe we can get him adopted!!!

Cross your fingers!
