Someone who is in the country shouldn't be allowed to go to college here AT ALL, that is utter bullshit, these people ought to be deported, not rewarded.

If on the rare chance they were a threat to the country, fair enough to keep them away. But if it's just one starving person fleeing their war-ridden country seeking refuge in ours? I mean, wow, so scary. I think everyone deserves a chance at education. No need to put up boundaries.

They don't deserve that education over someone who is in the country legally IMO, it's not our fault if their country sucks, our own people shouldn't have to give up jobs and education so they can have it.

Hmm depends really. If it's a war like America in Iraq or Afghanistan, well then both countries are to blame. If the West didn't interfere (by that, I mean many things), they wouldn't be fleeing here because their own countries would be a haven for them. If someone's smarter than me, and gets a job over me, well whatever. If they're an immigrant well maybe they deserve it.

If we bombed the hell out of their country it would be one thing, but people come here illegally from all over the world and take jobs from Legal US citizens, that shouldn't be allowed to go on.

That's not the issue at play here though Kimmie. The issue is illegal immigrants coming into California from Mexico, and illegally gaining government benefits, and now tuition breaks to go to school in our university system. It's a really big thing here, especially now that the Fresno State Student Body President just announced yesterday that he's in the country illegally. There's a massive difference between in-state and out of state tuition costs here in America for public universities. If you haven't established residency (two years in most cases), then you have to pay out of state tuition, which is generally anywhere between 3-5x the cost. I had to jump through a bunch of hoops when I went back to school when I moved back to California from Texas. The only reason I got to pay California tuition was because I graduated from high school here, otherwise my (community college) tuition would've been $2,000 for 12 units rather than the $350 or so that I ended up having to pay.

They're gaining a benefit that they're not entitled to. They're not a legal citizen of the country, let alone the state for the love of God.

If they are illegal they shouldn't be entitled to anything at all. There are proper channels to go down to gain citizenship. If you feel that strongly about leaving your country then you should be willing to emigrate legally.

I'm not anti-immigration at all, but do it legally, please.

I think this a crock of shit and want to know what you all think. Why should someone who is here illegally get the same advantages as someone who isn't? If my child were denied getting into a college because they chose someone who was here illegally over them Id be livid!

HEAR! HEAR! :clap

they are going to try and do that here in Massachusetts too....so disappointing
Disappointing? More like infuriating.

I'm not willing to tell private colleges that they can't take money from illegal aliens, but to allow them to enroll in state colleges, give them gov't loans, hardship discounts, & such as that is utter bullshit. I agree they should be deported as soon as they are found, and the college shouldn't have to give the tuition back.

I find it quite disturbing how this could have happened in the first place. Over here you won't get anywhere near a university without either a birth certificate and national insurance number, or a valid VISA.

Oh neat, I have to pay full tuition price while somebody here illegally gets a break. wipee.

I won't be surprised if they give illegals the right to vote, if they already haven't.
