The first thing I would ever do is buy a good house for myself that I am sure I will want to live in for good. Then I would buy my parents a home to stay in for when they get older. That would probably take up at least half of the money. Then I don't think I would do anything else, I would just live normally from then on.

Id invest in property, the prices are so low now there bound to go up.
The first thing id do though is give money to the Rand Paul for president campaign.
We need him in the white house.

I read a lot of 'a million is not a lot nowadays' in the replies and I would have to beg to differ. To obtain a million as a lump sum is quite a lot of money in my opinion. Perhaps, I live by meager standards but that could potentially take care of a lot of things when dealt with wisely.

My wife and I would buy a small retirement property in a warm part of the country and travel for a while...domestic in summer, international in winter.

Well, I don't talk to any family members, haven't in years...for reasons. So none of that money would be going to them.

I would however, buy my boyfriend a new car. I would also move somewhere nice where it's warm all the time because I'm so sick of cold weather.

I guess, I meant it as in. some people who have won that amount or there abouts have blown it on houses, boats, cars etc.. then dont have any more of it left to actually pay for the running costs of their extravagant purchases... Rates etc for a huge house... Then a couple years later are poor again.

I'd buy a helicopter and spend time touring the world from less than 2000 feet up. Just high enough to see everything. Go where the wind takes me.

I'd buy a new house for my parents! I'd buy a new car for me, and some things for my boyfriend and his family. I guess I'd start buying a lot furniture for our future home (in case things go well), and I'd keep the rest in the bank :) I'd later try to get my own business. With all that money I'd not feel so scared to invest on a business. I'd probably open a restaurant in Amsterdam (that's where I'm going to move in the future - Hopely!). I'd probably get married earlier with my boyfriend and start a family asap, because right now the cash is the only thing that is stopping us from doing that!

Oh I almost forget!!! I'd also use some of that money for my expensive treatments (some of them are so expensive I can no longer pay for them). I really need those treatments, but I'm going tru a hard time in my life :( I lost my writing job some months ago, and today I was thinking how wonderful it would be to hit the jackpot :)

I like the party idea.....I don't think anyone would see me for a few weeks. Assuming I came back alive I'd definitely have lots of gifts to buy my girl - like those pearls from mesenso she keeps pining after.

The first thing I would do is pay off my debt immediately. That would take a huge burden off my shoulders, and it would be a very small portion of a million dollars.

Apart from that I would give a good amount to both my parents so that they could be secure in their future. Then I would go on a vacation, start giving to good causes and put the rest into savings!

I think the first thing I'd do is buy my mother a new car, nothing too flashy, but something she's always wanted, just to say thanks for all she's done for me.

The rest, I'd put on a CD or something and get a little interest off of it until I graduate from college, and see where I'm at then. I'm pretty money conscious and I wouldn't be able to just blow that much money on something that I didn't really need.

Well if I suddenly received $1 million dollar then the first thing I would do is to take my husband and my daughter to our favourite 5 star hotel for 2 nights and I will think about what I would do with the rest of the money there. Getting a new big house would be obvious as one of the thing I'm going to do.

Money is not easy to come by with the way the world is going these days. Jobs, salaries, it isn't always fair. Money doesn't grow on trees so we can't just get what we want, when we want. If I suddenly had 1 million dollars, the first thing I would do is buy a big gift for my parents. The 2nd thing is I would pay my debt. The reason for the gift is because my parents have done so much for me yet I never had the chance to pay them back in any way except my love which is just cheesy lol. How about you guys?

huh!! One million is too small an amount to talk about. Let's talk about billions,,,

1 million really isn't all that much. But I'd take half of it and pay off my debt and buy a house (in full). I'd take the other half and invest it. Then I would continue to work, knowing that my living expenses were relatively low and let that $500,000 grow and earn interest so I could retire early.
