if you could set up Utopia, what would it look like? (be serious)

Mine would have no poverty, no war - everyone middle class.

Democracy based in Town Hall votes - no Senators voting FOR me on bills.

In order to "democratize the media", I would have
local TV and newspapers owned by local citizen groups - like Unions, Neighborhood Watch associations, PTA's, or grocery co-ops -- not some foreign Australian "one percent" superrich Rupert Murdoch.

Farms owned by local families, not owned by some giant corporation owned by a rich kid in Saudi Arabia. (who inherited 3 billion at age 21 and never worked a day. Who is now 22, a heavy cocaine user, is fascinated by banking and who knows nothing of farming)

No poverty, no war - no classes at all

No need for votes because everybody agrees how things ought to be. This is Utopia.

No need to control the media because the owners, just like everyone else, agrees how things ought to be. This is Utopia.

No need to stress over who owns what because the owners, just like everyone else, agrees how things ought to be. This is Utopia.

No need to stress over foreigners from Australia or Saudi Arabia because there would be no jealousy, ergo no war.

Mrs. Stepford is running for president. She'll probably win unanimously like her last 4 terms. We don't really want to tell her we neither have a government nor need a president, but she's such a nice lady and it really boosts her self-esteem when she wins.

Utopian Socialism. A system composed of participants where they are not primarily focused on enriching themselves with cash, but enriching their minds and bodies, focused on helping society and making our civilization better just like in Star Trek Next Generation. :):) Such a system would offer a minimum level of subsistence, basic needs, education, health covered, but would lavish substantial perks for smart participation. Rewards would include the style of residence and other material things, but mostly would consist of being rewarded positions of responsibility to lead in the creation of goods, research, science, medicine, knowledge, philosophy, spirituality, and generally guiding society forward. Such a system would be a democracy and could not tolerate corruption to be successful. I imagine some kind of society level birth control would be required. This is pure fantasy. I don't see humans being able to pull this off anything soon. And I see Libertarians hating this notion. ;)

Of course. It's anathema to liberty.
This "system" ... who would decide who gets lavished with substantial perks? Would these people not likewise be able to lavish themselves with substantial perks as a reward for doing such an excellent job of lavishing? Of course, that would not be seen as corruption, which must not be tolerated.

No religion and no currency. Service for service economics only! Only use of solar energy products, civilization broken into small city-states independently governed by their own desire. Masters of our environement with respect, not exploitation. Non-violent, vengeful, or jealous mindsets. Manifest effect and causality taught and reflected amongst actions.

You wrong. This is the kind of corruption that has typically plagued communism. Bottom line it requires a mind set we currently don't possess.

Utopia always has a catch... I'd choose the world the way it is now over some dream utopian society. Have you seen Demolition Man?

That's your example? Lol. Maybe you could clarify what you mean. I don't remember much about that except it was a Stallone vehicle where he is a cop in the future, chasing a dangerous felon. Can you remind me of the dangerous utopian message the movie sent?

If the human race is to advance it must get out of this it's all about "enriching me" thinking, instead focus on the common good, strive to better ourselves, not just to have have more ducats than the next guy/gal, but to better our minds, bodies and our civilzation. If I am brilliant, I should want to make discoveries to further knowledge for our species, not make myself a couple billion dollars. Man must move to a point where we are motivated by a higher level of thinking than stuffing cash in our individual pockets. Yes this is my opinion. :)

Well, I really wasn't using the movie as a serious reference, but a Utopia sounds dreadfully boring in my opinion. It'd be like Hippy Nation :p

I would immediately invade you.
