Most of you know my work situation...I work in the oil sands. The set up is: we're here for 2 weeks, work 14-12 hour days and stay in camp, we are with our co-workers 24-7 for the time we're here...minus the time we're sleeping, of course.

Anyway...this bonehead of a guy insisted that the only way he'd come work here is if his g/f came too...great, all's well and good, she was hired and is a great employee. Now they're fighting...

He's really controlling, he insisted on moving into her room, which is cramped for one, he tells her when to eat, when to sleep, how long to work, when to take breaks, etc. All because "he knows the game". Naturally, she told him she needed space and now all hell has broken loose...he's threatening to get her fired, telling her she has to quit, he walks over to her cubicle and pokes her for no reason, hauls her away to talk, etc. and that's all in the office, at night in camp is worse, I guess.

Now...one of the girls in the cubicles called me out of my office because he's playing "their song" so loud that it reaches his ex's work station...it's on #5 in a row now. Everyone out there is going to lose their mind...they want me to say something to him and I'm trying to stay out of it...well, I tried to tell him politely a few times that he needs to give her some space or he'll lose her forever, but that fell on deaf ears...

It's a shit show here today.

I've worked with some idiots...but this is ridiculous.

What's one of your crazy co-worker experiences?

Are you in charge of them? Why do people want you to say something?

Sounds like he needs someone to tell him bluntly no one else cares about hearing his shit, you're there to work and not to listen to his drama.

I don't know why me...I'm the administrator for the group, but definitely not responsible for them, I try to look after them and they come to me with everything, which is fine, but I'm not taking this on.

The man is 55 years old, you'd think he'd know better.

Please say not ALL men are this pathetic...I can see being upset but keep it to your private moments, don't let it spill over into the workplace.

I would not say ALL Men are that way, but jealous ones will rarely change their ways. That being said I guess you could say the same about jealous women. Its just the nature of not trusting someone and paranoia kicking in on them.

If you have no authority over him, send the complaining people to those who do and you yourself ask that something be done..

This person should be subject to the same rules and regulations as everyone else in the group. It should matter that they are a couple. They were hired as staff and so should be treated as employees and the business aspect of this should be kept separate..

I stupidly told him he'll have to keep it cool while at work, it's getting out of hand. He thinks it's all about him and it doesn't matter that it's disrupting the workplace....I was fair, I warned him. Next step is just what you said, everyone can go to the manager.

Just found out the g/f or ex, or whatever she is, is nervous about going home (the fly together), the group she works with are nervous for her too, what a messed up situation.

I'd get rid of the guy. That kind of crap shouldn't be tolerated in the workplace.
That is a crappy situation to be in though when people are so far from home.

It's not a problem. The company doesn't need to renew either's contract and can send them home days apart can they not ?

I mean I would imagine they do not have to put them on the same flights.. One can be on WestJet while the other on Air Canada from the major Airport they leave from. Make her leave first.. The more days apart you give them the better.

I know when my cousin worked in the Oil Sands they had twin props flying in and out every day to Edmonton..

If you want her back let her come back and let him go.. You can't have that kind of disruption in those types of places..

Flight passes and back to back positions makes it difficult, but if this keeps up, they'll have to look at shifting a rotation. Maybe he'll see the light and smarten up after 2 weeks home, but I think he's they type that will just pack it in if he doesn't get his way.

If he really is that jealous ( super jealous ), he will be the type that keeps making life difficult on all of you if she hangs around. I guarantee that even if he doesn't get called back he finds a way back there. IMO..

Well she shouldn't lose her job because he's a dick....this was a great opportunity for her and a great fit.

I think he's nuts, but hopefully he'll do the right thing and either just do his job or find another one if it's too difficult for him.

No it's not fair if she is doing a great job, but if he is paranoid, he will do stupid shit to make her look bad.. I don't know him so I will reserve judgment, but if he is bad as you say I still think you will not have seen the last of the problems.. IMO

Asshole men (not all...just, well, the asshole ones)...I'm kidding myself in thinking you're wrong, I have seen my fair share of tools to know you're probably right.

I've been on the other side of the fence.. Lost jobs because of women.. I am extremely careful now to the point of taking it very slow.. Don't fool yourself in thinking it's only men..

Jealousy is a terrible thing and has horrible consequences for all. Those who live with it are often in fear of always being taken advantaged of so they treat others like crap.. As soon as I feel that sort of tone in someone's voice I step back. You just don't know how little or how far they will take things..

Hell no, I know what lengths some women will go to....there's lots of jealous people out there, men and women.

Wow, at 55 years old that's ridicilous. Hell, at 20 years old that would be ridiculous. It's unprofessional to say the least...and he's making a fool out of himself.

I wasn't on my current shift, but 2 of my employees used to date and I was told that the female would often tell the guy that she loved him and give him a kiss as she left the room. Why it was never addressed, I don't know...I wasn't the boss or even on the shift then. That's a BIG no-no here...you don't even show affection in the parking lot if you're both employees.
