Ive discussed with my children recently on taking a trip overseas. (as much as it will take us at least 3 years to save the amount of money we would need.) they have agreed and Im teaching them along the way the value of something they really want. Anyways. They decided they wanted to go to USA. Which is really cool cause I had planned on going there a long time ago but fell through and now I will be able to share the experience with my boys. :D What I guess I would like to know from you lot. Is ideas on places you think would be awesome to see. considering this may be the only chance I get to go overseas.... I want to see a few typical touristy places however, the boys and I have both agreed we don't want to look touristy :24:

17 and 14. now, they are pumped about Disney land HOWEVER, I don't want to waste money on what could possibly be a changer in 3 years lol

Disney is fun for all ages, seaworld is close and that is deffo worth a visit. Epcott snd univerdal studios also
So Florida has tonnes to offer

However the states is massive and has so much more to offer. By the way Canada is cool as well . Aussies often tell me they feel at home here

We definitely want to visit New York. And Dallas, the boys are keen for both of those places.....figuring out what to do between them is the hardest part and how to get there, drive or fly or gawd forbid bus LOL. I also would mind checking out Nashville just to say Ive been there :)

Where are you coming from?

The U.S is almost impossible to see in one visit.

How much time are you planning?

Fly to one coast, pick up the car, and drive to the other coast and fly out?

In 2 weeks and 2400 miles, I couldn't see all of Utah and Arizona I wanted to in one trip.

I figured driving would be cool too. Wrong side of though road though plenty of it would mean I would have to adjust LOL. We will be coming from Australia :)

You need to see where Vin is at on any forums. He came over from Austrailia and drove across the US (west coast to east). I believe he may of taken like 8 weeks.

Driving IS the way to see the US. There is sooooo much to see...

I would start off by planning the time of the year.. Seasons are not quite the same in the USA as they are in Australia..

Depending on where you start and what you like you may want to start in the south and move north as the summer moves along. On the east coast it gets very humid when hot.. Being in an area that maybe more dry might suit you better but that's your choice..

Destinations

DisneyWorld, Epcot Centre, Universal Studios - Florida
Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, Magic Mountain - Los Angeles
Las Vegas - Casino's and shows until you drop.
New York - Broadway and the new World Trade Centre that just opened as well as the memorial to those who died in 9/11

So many it's hard to think of all the places..

My beloved and I took 2 months to drive coast to coast. San Francisco to LA, Vegas, Painted Desert, then south to the Gulf coast, New Orleans, down to Orlando, then up the Atlantic coast all the way to Rhode Island before turning in our rental at New York's JFK airport. It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience.

For myself, when you've been to one big city, you pretty much have seen em all lol

That said, if visiting the US and I HAD to visit a city, it would either be San Francisco or Washington DC.

I'd personally skip the Grand Canyon and check out Canyonlands in Utah, much better scenery IMO with less crowds. Traveling across the Dakota's one always has to stop in at Wall Drug LMAO AND it really is amazing to drive across Nebraska and see nothing but boring corn fields. Just the little things you get by driving across the whole country that you never experience in the large cities IMO.

If you visit Texas, check out Schlitterbahn down here by me. It's ranked Number 1 in the world for water parks.

That actually looks pretty cool, Dallas I think was on the shortlist of places. Its deciding to drive or fly.

To be honest I never though of san Francisco lol. My eldest has Washington on his list. The problem is the time span too We are thinking the month of November.

First thought is flying into LA, then take a beautiful drive up the cost of California to San Fran. Time would be limited to ensure you made it to DC if you were driving, then perhaps fly back?

You could litterally spend at least 3 full days at the Smithsonian in DC and still not see everything.

With only a month and everything to see, you better make a plan on exactly what you want to do, and hate to say it, but try to stick with it.

Thing to try to do is just remember it's a trip and try to have fun, and everything you're seeing you haven't seen before. Sometimes when you make agendas and have time frames on vacations, they don't become fun.

Remember, it's not the destination itself, but the journey.

Washington DC in November?? I hope you like snow. Schlitterbahn's closed that time of year. Florida & LA are still pretty lively though.

That's the main point, the boys want to see a cold enough winter where it snows LOL. We come from a country that snows in like 10% of places and even then its a 50/50 chance of happening. few ideas from the kids so far... New York, Florida, Dallas......so far that's it

Well hell, if you want snow, you want the Rocky Mountains. Few sights are more beautiful, plus you can learn to ski. Colorado, Utah, etc. I don't know the area really well. I lived in Utah for 18 months but spent most of my time in the high desert. The main thing I looked for was an exit. Cold ain't for me.

Just make sure you're prepared for the cold. Would also make driving interesting. Not sure if I'd want to be around you on the roads with 2 ft of snow LOL
