I want to learn to speak Persian (Farsi)

But I'm not willing to shell out the $800 necessary to get Rosetta Stone for it. :24: I also have absolutely no idea why I want to learn to speak it, but I do.

My housemate started persian lessons and got a starter pack for farsi from rs for like £60.
He also payed about £300 to go to the London Institute of Language (or similar) for lessons.
He quit in the end, but he's a quitter...

It's fucking difficult. Obviously you're a smart bloke, but so is this guy. It's about work and time. Time being the main factor. If you're not willing to put years of your life into learning Farsi, it's wasteful, because that's how long it takes.

Mail order bride? lol :jk

I want to learn a few different languages. I figure after 21 years of learning and perfecting English I should move on. lol. I don't know exactly HOW I'm going to go about learning all these, because, like you said, I'm not willing to dish out hundreds of dollars for that. Anyway, desired languages are:

French (I took two years in high school and learned le zip)
Greek
Spanish
Latin

I guess you have to weigh up the effort vs the potential reward - will you even use it once you've mastered it? If you're not likely to, does that bother you or will you just be happy to know a language that difficult?
