No, really, I did...... If you couldn't give two flips stop reading now and I'll understand completely;) But for those who may be curious about my meeting with this consumate performer........

Back in about 1973 or 74 in December, my mom and I were vacationing at Lake Arrowhead on Big Bear mountain in CA as we did a bunch cuz we had a cabin up there.

We were in a gift shop and my mom went outside to smoke a cig. I was looking around for gifts to buy her when I saw a station wagon w/piano keys painted on the sides pull up. It was Liberace. He came in and was looking around himself. I was thinking how cool is this cuz my mom & Grandma loved this guy. So I'm watching him pick stuff out and go to the register to pay. The man pulled a huge wad of 50's out of a manilla envelope to pay for his stuff and I saw my opportuntity... My small self went up to him and told him that my mom is a huge fan and that she is outside and I proceeded to grab his hand and drag him outside to meet her - which he let me do. I found her and brought him to her all excited about who I had. He was kind enough to invite her and I for Christmas dinner at his house. I was totally shocked when she politely declined his invitation.
:wtf:!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

But, Liberace was gracious about it and got back in his car and drove off..... I felt her and I were then even for all the times she took me to Vegas to see and meet The Osmonds..... I have stories about meeting them too, but that's a different thread for another day........ I even have pictures for that one! Who knew in a few short years I'd go from The Osmonds to KISS!!!

Liberace was a classy guy. He could have easily brushed my little kid self aside and went about his day but he didnt. He understood where his money came from and for one little moment he made my mom's day.

You make no sence!

Ryder, I understand you're only 14 but Liberate and Liberace are two entirely different things. One is a rock band and one was a showman w/a piano and flamboyant costumes.

Mystic, thanks. It was cool of him to be so nice.

Tyler, I think you're correct about starting out quite poor. Perhaps that's why he was so generous w/his time w/me? Again, he knew who paid his bills. His fans.

*I wish my brother George was here*

Excellent story Moon! It is always great to hear about a celebrity who didn't behave like a jerk, especially to a kid. Thanks for posting it! :)

You're welcome. Speaking of jerks, I was on a flight w/ Jim McMahon from the Chicago Bears almost 20 years ago (Gosh I'm getting freaking old). There was a little boy of about 5 who screwed up his courage to ask him for an autograph and he completely blew him off. Even his wife appeared a bit ticked at Jim's behavior along w/the stewardesses. I wondered if any of them spit in any drink he may have ordered after that? The little kid was crushed. I was so tempted to walk up to him as we disembarked and call him out on being a freaking jerk off but I didn't. I did tell my dad when I got home who was a huge Bears fan. He wasn't thrilled either.

Some people.....:mad I could understand if it was an adult, but a little guy? Come on jerkoff....

Why am I not surprised? He always seemed a jerk to me. It is unconscionable to blow off kids, especially when one is a pro-athlete. They look up to these guys. I hope the stewardess(es) spat in food and drink. He deserved it. :mad

I know, flight attendants. LOL Some verbal habits are hard to break. ;)

Good for them. Whenever I see that smug face on TV, I'll remember this story and have a good laugh at his expense.

That reminded me of an email and I went and checked and I still have it:

My flight was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant, who seemed to put everyone in a good mood as he served us food and drinks. As the plane prepared to descend, he came swishing down the aisle and told us that "Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he'll be landing the big scary plane shortly, so lovely people, if you could just put your trays up,that would be super."

On his trip back up the aisle,he noticed this well-dressed and rather Arabic looking woman
hadn't moved a muscle. "Perhaps you didn't hear me over those big brute engines
but I asked you to raise your trazy-poo, so the main man can pitty-pat us on the ground."
She calmly turned her head and said, "In my country, I am called a Princess
and I take orders from no one."

To which (I swear) the flight attendant replied, without missing a beat,
"Well, sweet-cheeks, in my country I'm called a Queen, so I outrank you. Tray-up, Bitch."
