i've just been to brandon marsh,theres still plenty of common darters to be had but it was the hawkers that caught my attention...over the river avon there was droves of them,all involved in the usual dog fights but seldom landing,anyway i got this southern hawker,he took off a couple of times only to land a few yards away

great pics. We're having a late summer as well & I LOVE it. June and July were horrible. :yuk

i know you have stated it before some where but what are the specs on your camera
and what are the setting you use for bug close ups

i want to be able to take pictures of bugs from about 3+ foot away but I want the photo look like a macro

if you want to take insect pictures reasonable lens is paramount,what i tend to do with a larger subject like a dragonfly is use my 90 - 300 mm lens with the camera set on the tripod,that way i at least get something...after that i'll try to get closer using the 60mm macro lens,handheld for this....settings i think are personal preference,what works for me might not work for you so you might need to experiment,and dont be afraid to use a flash,with some insects it seems to calm them
