Cell phones aren't really of any use unless you run your business on the road at all times. Yes, they're handy in the event of an accident...but every previously activated cell phone retains the ability to make a call to 911 in the event of an emergency, so you don't need to purchase a new one just because your old one's service expired.

A lot of people don't realize this, and are duped into purchasing more than what they need.

No see, I'll never have a land line... so my cell phone is the only way to contact/be contacted at any time.

Versatility > *

thats what i used to think.. but after the blackouts weve had (especially that huge one than blanketed the whole northeast a few years ago), i wont do without a landline as well as a cell. the cells didnt work for shit then. it was bad. luckily the land phones worked since they used their own power so we werent totally cut off from everything. but if you relied on a cell you were screwed...
thats another reason i didnt do VOIP at home. if your inernet goes down, or if power goes out, bye bye phone service..

We had an ice storm a couple years ago and the power was out for a couple of days, so therefore no phone service. The onely way to communicate with anyone was our cell phones.
Not to mention, my 8 yr old does ALOT of traveling with her great-grandparents (and they wont get a cell phone), so my daughter has her cell phone that she takes with her when they go out of state.

i guess it depends on the area. for us, not only were most of the cell towers probbaly dead, but where you could get service, so many people were on the phones at once that you would always get 'all circuits are busy' errors.

the land line worked fine though.

i guess the moral here is, have both? :dunno

Yep, have both
I carry mine everywhere I go. Especially to work and back. Ya never know when ya might have a flat tire and need to call someone to come fix it for ya. (I dont know how to change one)
