I hate when people say

From my perspective, "America" refers to the US. It's almost become the generic term, like Kleenex is a tissue and a Coke is any soft drink. So if someone is from America, of course they mean the US.

Canadians, Argentinians, Brazillians, Mexicans ect are all Americans too though, bit presumpteous to assume the term American is talking about the US though don't you think?

I'm sorry...Huh:confused

You mean if I ran up to you on the street and said I was from America.....You'd ask me which one?

Oh and if you ever put Canada and America in the same category...I'll ban you:24::jk

No Peter. In North America, if you say, "I'm from America", everyone knows you mean the US. The citizens of countries in North, Central or South America will say, "I'm from Mexico" or "I'm from Columbia", etc.

No, you can spot Yanks a mile off! The're so loud and brash!:D

But seeing you are only one country in two huge continents of America, it is rather arrogant to expect people to automatically assume that because you're from America you must be from the USA.

I see, you hijacked the name of two continents. Don't know of any other country that would refer to themselves as European, Asian, African or Oceanic first when asked what country the're from.
