If you've never been through command prompt... look at the "Request timed out" vs the "reply from..."

It just randomly kicked me off the internet for no apparent reason.

i hate my Router too. i have Belkin. every once in a while i cant get on through the router and then i take it out of the router and have the modem directly conected to the computer.

im so tired of dealing with Routers.

im thinking about getting DSL for my roomates computer so i dont have to deal with the router anymore.

What router brand is the best? I have a Linksys and it works fine. I mean there are a few hiccups here and there, but for the most part smooth sailing.

My whole computer sucks. Sometimes the internet just doesn't work, sometimes it likes to restart itself, and it won't download anything. I'm ready to kick this pice of shit out the window.:mad

Many that live deserve death.
Some that die deserve life.
Can you give it to them?
Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment.
Even the very wise cannot see all ends.

Is that quote from the Lord of the Rings? :)

Yes it is, well the film anyway. It's Gandalf explaining to Frodo why Bilbo didn't kill Gollum years ago!:) If you've never seen the film or read the book, don't worry, I know you don't know what the fuck I'm talking about!:D

i hate the linksys wireless one...we had the "speed booster" and it suuuucked. We had two computers, and two vonage lines on it and it just couldnt handle it. We got the new netgear one and have had no probs whatsoever in a year now.

I have a Linksys and have set up several other linksys routers for other people. I have also set up many other brands for people and by far the Linksys is the most straight forward and most feature ritch. Shure you may pay a little more for them but I think its worth it for trouble free performance. Now that speed boost thing that was mentioned earlier dosnt do anything unless your network cards are from linksys and have the feature on them to. otherwise its best just to buy one that dosnt have that on it. It costs a little more and you dont get all that mutch extra out of it.

If you want the best router on the market, go with Cisco. You won't find a more secure and versitile router out there. If you want to save yourself a lot of green, then Linksys is the way to go. They are owned by Cisco, and some of their technology has been cross platformed with the home networking routers.

You can get good deals on Cisco router/cable modems. They afford you many options in configuration and security if you understand telnet
