Awesome. I was on my way back from paying my rent, and heard a loud pop. Got out of the car, and sure enough, I had a gaping hole in it. So I jack it up, and I can't get the fucking lugnuts off. I'm a decently hefty person, and even standing on the tire iron didn't work. So I ended up having to limp it to my parents house (because for whatever dumbass reason I didn't have my cell phone with me. My dad happened to be home from work, and he couldn't get them off. So, ended up having to call AAA and they even had a problem getting the damn things off. So now I'm driving around on a donut spare.

I called around to some different places... gonna cost me $316 to get generic replacements or $340 for Coopers. Those are the cheapest prices in town (which admittedly are a pretty good deal). I figure that since I blew one tire, I should probably get the rest of 'em replaced at this point. So, there goes a huge chunk of my savings. Fucking awesome.

Only flat on one side. ;). I have a 4 way lug wrench. Even with a 4-way occasionally they are put on too tight by the tire guys. Sorry about your tire problems. And the donut is not designed for that many miles.

I share your pain for car problems. Our car, the power steering failed yesterday because the pipe split and fluid was leaking out. Managed to get it home, boyfriend took it to garage, they patch it up. Today, same thing happens again! So they better not try to charge us again.

Not only that, I just paid 6 months more car tax, and the MOT is due, and a wheel bearing needs replacing. Fucking cars.

Nope, it's definitely not meant for very many miles. Fortunately, it's a mile drive to work, and I don't have to go much of anywhere either. I'll probably take it to the shop on Friday.

Found a place that'll put Cooper tires on it for $340 out the door... about $100 cheaper than anywhere else in town. So I'll be heading down there when I get off of work this afternoon.

Tires are too expensive.

They don't last much either. We got ours replaced a while back and I was really happy thinking they'd last ages. I mentioned this to the boyfriend and he was like 'they'll probably have to be replaced again in 18 months you know'. Bollocks.

If you do a little research on-line first, you can save quite a bit in gas mileage by getting the right tire.

Tire rack.com will show you the rolling resistance of each tire and how that translates to fuel mileage. You can save well over 100 gallons of gas over the lifetime of the tires. That would be $375 here in the states... :dunno
All else being equal, I try to see what tire has the lower rolling resistance.

I certainly believe tires impact gas mileage, but if someone's bitching that gas went up ten cents last week, I'm not sure how willing one would be to shell out the cash for four new tires :p

I actually did some research, and these Coopers look like they're pretty good for fuel mileage. Part of my problem is that they're freaking lower profile tires though. If I had 15" rims, I'd be looking at spending a lot less on tires too. :24:

That happened to me a few months ago.

$900 later I had four new tires, an oil change, and an alignment.

It kills me that they charge me $500 for tires, and MORE money to install them.

This is one of the few times when I'm glad my ex-wife took my 4Runner. She had to replace her tires a year ago... cost her $1,200, because it has 20" wheels and off-road tires. :24:

I drive an SUV too and last year spent more or less that same price to replace all my four tires :(

Do you have American Tire Company by your place? This tire shop is awesome as comes with the tires the warranty with no additional $$ to avail of it! . Free tire services like tire rotation, air, checks etc . Check them out. They were the cheapest so far too for me when i was shopping last year! Good luck :)

$384 down the drain between getting my stupid car smogged and the new tires. Well, I guess it isn't completely down the drain, since new tires are a good thing, and I can finally stop dodging cops because my tags are out of date
