I Got Fired Today

Well, I'm an Electronics Technician. My biggest strength/most experience is in troubleshooting/repair of all types of electronic equipment (from computers/networks to satellite receivers and radars).

I've been looking most of the afternoon, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

So do you have a degree as well? I know I had trouble when I got out with my vast Avionics knowledge finding decent paying jobs out there or anyone willing to take a chance. I ended up getting my AS in Electronics, but where I was living it wasn't very promising so this motivated me to get my BS.

Have you tried Florida's job bank? How about looking at the defense contractors near any of the bases? They are willing to forgo education for experience since they know the training is highly specialized and exactly what they are looking for. Good luck man, it couldn't happen at any worse of a time of the year when employers are holding off until after the holidays. Bastards.

That's pretty much the problem I'm having. None of the stuff I've worked on has a direct correlation to anything in the civilian world. I had an interview with the County to work on fire alarms/sound systems in schools. I don't think I got it. I just wanted to be like "Look, I've fixed million-dollar radar systems. I can fix a damn fire alarm. If it's got schematics, it's not exactly rocket science". But like you said, they have to wanna take a chance, which of course isn't how businesses make money.

I've looked at the contractors, but there's almost no technical jobs here in J-ville. I submitted a resume to the Department of the Navy to be one of their civilian Electronics Techs, but I've heard they seldom have openings.

Did you apply at any cable installation company just to have a job in the interum? For instance, in our area, Comcast cable is always looking for installers.
