Ugh. So yesterday I was completely fine all day, then late last night I started to feel that tell-tale tickle in my throat, and by the time I woke up this morning it was an all-out sore throat....
... And now I've started sneezing a bunch, which makes my throat hurt even worse..
..I'm thinking it's allergies, cause I almost never sneeze normally. I feel a bit better right now, I drank some hot coffee this morning and oddly enough that helped my throat a lot. For now lol.
Not to seem dense or anything, but I thought that juices and fruits high in acidic content were actually aggravating to a sore throat?
To me, it sounds like it might be allergies...
That is exactly the way I am at this time of the year, when pollen is all around..
Try Orange juice and freshly squeezed lemon therapy. Either put additional lemon juice on your OJ. Or freshly squeeze lots of lemon and take spoonfuls of it without water, add salt ( the coarser the salt texture the better). It totally relieves your sore throat quick. Hope it helps.
You can gargle with warm water + salt too.
Check if you're having fever as Strep sore throat's primary symptom would be continuous high grade fever. Check also at the back of your mouth if you have white patches ( pus like) and feel the sides of your neck/below the jaw line- if your lymph nodes are huge and painful. As not all sore throats are Strep esp in adults, the words are just used interchangeably...
Juices help with sore throats or any upper respiratory diseases as the Vitamin C in them helps your immune system fight the illness.
The acidity + combination of the salt helps relieve the symptoms of sore throat. That's the first i heard that juices and high acids are aggravating to sore throats. The therapy i shared to you, I do myself when i have those symptoms or even with my allergies ( I have bad allergies which from the post nasal drip soon forwards to sore throat and URTI ( Upper Respiratory Tract Infection) We do advise such to our patients too which I had been doing so as a teaching for years......

:thumbup Excellent advice, as always, PurpleDove!..:thumbup
I like to add, that taking an over the counter antihistamine like Benadryl, Allegra, Sudafed, etc, will help with the sneezing and runny nose caused by allergies..
Just keep in mind that Benadryl will make you sleepy, so, if you need to be alert, stick with something that does not have the ingredient that is in Benadryl, which is "Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride"... a really big mouthful to say and remember!..
My physician taught me what some of the differences between a cold and an allergy are:
- With an allergy, the secretions from your nose are clear.. like water..
- With a cold they turn thicker and yellowish..
- With an allergy, you tend to sneeze a lot, and for prolonged times, because your body wants to get rid of the pollen, mold, or whatever has invaded it.. especially when it's in the nose and throat.. That is a reflex that is connected to the brain..
- With a cold, you sneeze less, because the virus has gone deeper into your system, so your immune system takes over the job of cleaning..
- Both, a cold and an allergy, produce sore throats and body aches and pain..
- The aches and pain, and sore throat in allergies are caused by the release of histamine.. and are relieved by taking an antihistamine..
- While the ones caused by a cold, are the result of your immune system fighting the cold virus and are relieved by taking Tylenol, Aspirin or any other over the counter pain reliever..
Hope this, combined with PD's professional advice will help you and you'll feel better soon.. :smiley31:
