People who then decide to drive should have IDIOT stamped on their forehead.

Hubbub got rear ended by a drunk driver on his way home from work last night. It occurred on the one busy road in this little Podunk town so they moved their vehicles to a side street to get out of the way. The other driver then began threatening my husband and beating on his truck. So not only are the tailgate and bumper damaged, but there are little marks all along the side from stupid angry drunk man. My husband loves his dang truck. I am quite proud of him for not losing his cool.

Anyway, the cops get there and evidently this man has been caught drunk driving multiple times before. However, since they moved the cars from the "scene of the crime" they said they can't do anything about the man or the accident. This makes no sense to me. Anyone care to explain?

So at this point it seems that the truck will remain damaged for quite some time since we do not have money to pay for it ourselves. It should be the drunk assholes responsibility to fix it, not ours and it ticks me off.

I'm sorry I'm not really versed in American law, but since there is no criminal case against him, is there still not a civil liability against him. Or does it not work like that in the states?

I agree. I have no time for people who drive under the influence. I wouldn't put them in prison because I don't want to spend money on them, I'd just ban them from driving for 10 years.

This is good in theory, but if they are irresponsible enough to drive under the influence, how much of a step is it to drive without a license?

WHAT! The guy is drunk and they don't take him away to jail. Where are you Boomer?

Tucked away in the hills of Tennessee. There are times that I love living out here in the boonies and other times when I hate it. I think the cops in the area are terrible. They are all country boys who grew up out here, and as long as you are in good with one of them you don't have to worry about much of anything. I hate to question anyone's morality but perhaps one of the cops knew the drunk driver and that is why no punishment was given. Wouldn't be completely out of the realm of possibility.

I have no idea what is going to happen but the cops last night made it sound like there was nothing they could do.

Most drunk drivers are just people who are over the limit and think they can get from point a to point b without encountering any cops. They're irresponsible yes, but not ardent law-breakers.

A friend of mine is a chronic drunk-driver... Now he needs to have his license taken away or spend a long stint in prison before he'll wise up.

Who told them to move their cars from the scene?? WOW....

Anyway, that being said, I think it's rediculous that at the very least, the drunk driver wasn't charged.......amazing!

Yeah, or before he kills someone.

Whilst I agree to an extent, I feel that the views toward traffic related crimes in general is skewed. From the vast majority of people who speed, the proportion of people who drive without insurance etc.

I wonder whether people feel that things relating to their car are not under the same regulation as other aspects of their life, or whether its lack of understanding and education of new drivers, or *insert here*.. I'm not sure.

If you have insurance file it. Let your insurance persue him to pay for the damage.

Personally I think all cars show be fitted with a breathaliser attached to the ignition which you have to breath into first and if you're over the limit, the car automatically wont start. Cant be too difficult or expensive to make, surely?

agree completley

we have proved beyond doubt that the only thing that seems to make drunk drivers think twice is when they kill someone, and then they are sorry

fines and license suspensions wont cut it

I agree

People just generally have no sense. Texting, drunk, high, whipping up breakfast, putting on makeup...assholes.

I have always heard to move your cars out of the way unless someone is injured.
