but I've been so determined and dedicated to the guitar these last 2 years. I've been playing for longer, but not as serious as I should. But these last two years I have practiced with determination and dedication and I am ripping out some cool stuff. This morning was awesome. I can really see major improvements in my fretting, plucking, slapping, popping and peddle usage. Im really proud of myself. I hope this doesnt sound conceited.

Congrats... There is nothing more satisfying that learning something really good on the whi-tar, or bass. It's not showing off, it's more a feeling of pride. I'm not much into bass, but when I learned Pulling Teeth by 'tallica, I think every one I'd ever met knew about it

What kind of stuff have you been learning?

Not any covers. I just been working on my own songs. My technique. Running through scales, working on my fretting and stuff. The basics. I listen to music for inspiration, but I didnt want to learn covers so my music would be mine and not influenced. Ya know?

Yeah, that's a really good way to go. I went the opposite way and learned by others, I've got so many other peoples bad habbits that it's hard to get rid of :)

Make sure you don't get an egotistical band leader. I once sacked sacked 7 bassists in a two year period. I think that the bass is such an important part, people don't give it enough credit. Good luck with the band thing though, it's SOOO much fun :)

I was in a band in from middle school through High School called South Masonic. I was pretty much the band leader. Set us up a bank accound. Stashed cash for stings, heads, chords, cybals..etc. And a bass player doesnt sit in the background when he gets his slap on! LOL :p

:) Bank account... err. yeah, I did that.. kinda. I used to get paid and then go back back when someone else was on and ask for the money a second time... It all went on booze, it all went down the pan. When I think of it, I'm the worst person in the world to run a band. I just love the feeling of being on stage.

You know, I like putting on a show too. But my favorite thing, is going to guitar center, picking up a bass and wailing in front of people. I get a nice little gathering. Reason I like this more, is cause I may inspire someone to pick up an instrument. I think everyone should play an instrument. Its a really good escape from all the bullshit.

To inspire, you hit the nail on the head. That's why I teach guitar and bass. There is something special about inspiring someone to learn something new.

Though I did get kicked out of a guitar shop once for playing Sesame Street ... slight return

I'd love to learn the black and whites, but I leave them be. I see them as special, as I have no idea how to play them. When I hear a pop song I break it down, name the chords, name the key and the likes, when I hear piano I hear beauty...

That whole paragraph makes me seem such a pansy...

I have this natural thing with the piano. I can make some pretty cool tunes and I dont even screw with it much. Just not my style though. I can jump around with a piano like I can with the guitar. :D
