:willy_nilly: OH MY GOD!!! It was a terrible experience!!! I have naturally curly, dark auburn hair. Well. A friend of mine (who is in cosmetology school) convinced me to allow him to bleach my hair and dye it a golden blonde color. I trusted him, and so we got all the items and started at 8pm last night. First go around the bleach turned my hair florescent orange. So then we went and got more bleach and tried again. By this time my scalp was burning, and I was pissed and ready to give up. So, after being bleached twice, and dyed, my hair was still an offensive, disgusting buttery orange color. Oh, and by this time I have blisters on my scalp  So now I'm sitting here, with a professional having to fix my hair, scalp burning off my damn head, and now I'm going to have to have my hair cut to get rid of the damage. NEVER AGAIN will I allow a non-professional to touch my head!!! :(

I'm sorry Withers.

I dye my hair a lot. But I use drug store products, my hair is naturally darkblonde light brown and my hubby does it.

The only time I had a problem was when I dyed my hair THEN went in a hottub that nite. My hair turned a very bright green.

I don't know what your friend used but most over the counter stuff is good. Except Sun-IN! That is very damaging.

Maybe u will look cute with short hair?

Bleach is so damaging to your hair anyway, and it clearly says on the box to never double an application, but my friend assured me that it would be fine. He was wrong!! And I just got a traumatic hair cut a month or so ago, I got almost 8 inches cut off my hair, so I'm still not quite over that yet lol and now I have to cut it again!!!

On the plus side, I'm told that the shorter hair suits my face much better. :D

for first time always go to a professional if you want a big change on colour and you use bleach

some people can do it at home ..but not all hair take the colour good ..example my hair i will never use bleach at home ...even at the hair salon they leave mine longer as does not take the colour very stubborn hair
they always put the time and always say another 15 more minutes

OmG Withers, I totally feel with you. :-( How bad that is; especially hair is so important to us women, isn't it?

Dying from very dark colors is always very risky. I hope, of your hair can be saved as much as possible.

Well, in all fairness to my friend, he told me it was going to be a long process, but I had no idea it would be painful, and so damaging to my hair!!! We'll see how it turns out!

I think it should have been the minimum to tell you everything about the risks of dying hair. The longer the process, the more damage it will do to your hair. Furthermore the structure of your hair is important, too. Thick hair won't take that much damage than fine hair.
I don't want to agitate you, but someone who is in a cosmetology school should know better. :-/

I think, such procedures should be left in the hair stylists' hands.
