I am now officially night person

Zirc what is it that you do on a horse ranch that requires a night person. Don't those buggers sleep?

I think its just patrol, checking on the horses making sure they are all there and well.

When I worked on a Throughbred farm(for a month until I injured my arm), two nights a week it was my job to wake up and wander around the stalls checking doors, windows, and the horses.

Close but not quite. I'm on foal watch. Our first mare is due January 27 and our last is due in early June sometime. Someone needs to be there in case something goes wrong and that someone happens to be me. :cool

Doh! I could of figured that out... :24:

All the babies were born when I was working there. They were sweet but those colt yearlings are littke fuckers!

....and logged on to Otz. That's what you call work :D Awesome :thumbup

I am hoping you're as awake as this smiley of yours :waving:
Well, to be quite honest, there isn't a whole lot to do here at night. I fed everyone at 10:00 when I got here so that's done for the night. Our mare that's due to foal first isn't even in the barn because she's not really close yet so here I sit. :D I have to walk a fillly and do hot compresses on a colt at some point yet. That will take me all of half an hour and I have 7 hours left to go. Yup, I'm a busy one alright. :p

Yes, I'm wide awake. Rather bored, though. Forums tend to be pretty slow in the middle of the night and I don't really have anything else to do here. No TV and such.

Lucky !! :D

Yeah i think that's the good thing with graveyard shift. Not a lot of things to do. It's maybe just a matter of getting used to it for some people like myself. I just rebel to that idea- that's why :willy_nilly: :p

When you go shopping next time- buy that portable DVD and watch as much movies as you can while at work :D

So you work 10 H shift ? :eek

 With one hour "lunch" so 9 hours paid. Lunch is in quotations because my entire night shift is basically a lunch break so...:ninja I get 10 hours of OT on each paycheque. I like it. :thumbup

I miss working my 12H shifts :( Hence once a week, i schedule double shift (16H) so that gives me additional days off. I get an hour lunch too but when on night shift sometimes, then we get 1.5-2H sleeping break :p

So u still have to work your 5 days per week then :ninja Well, since you love your job, am sure you don't mind especially the extra OT pay  :clap

Yeah, I get the same amount of hours on nights as I do on day shift. The only difference is how the days are spaced. On day shift we work 8 days on, 3 days off, 2 days on, 1 day off, etc. That way we get every other weekend off so no one is always working weekends and there are enough people working on any given day. On nights I work Sunday night to Thursday night and have Friday and Saturday nights off. It's easier to get people to cover my nights off on weekends so I get weekends off. It kinda sucks not having 3 day weekends but I don't do a whole lot on my days off when I'm working nights anyway.
