Over-the-top truck commercials.

I don't need a truck that can stop a cargo plane. That situation never really enters my daily life. Same goes for the one that goes up a giant ramp then stops when it tilts down. I don't drive up giant levers too often.

They're using the plane as an example of it's strength. You may not need a truck that can stop XXXXX amount of weight, but there are people out there who haul equipment (not nearly that weighty, but still) like that.

Kind of reminds me of the kind of people round here who drive 4X4s. You hear about all the great things they can do on the harshest of terrains and the only people you see driving them are Mums to drive their kids 100yards down the road to school!

Once again it's a demonstration of the braking power of the truck... It's simply a demonstration of what it could do, not that you would ever have to do something on such a large scale; therefore, anything you do throw at it, (towing a 12,000 lb boat for example) would be no problem for the brakes to handle.
