By censoring those whose speech you don't like, you're opening the door to being censored yourself.

Teaching is a better destroyer of ignorance than censorship is.

Yep, and I for one prefer to keep that censorship to a minimum. I'd much rather educate the ignorant than force them to go underground.

By letting people spout ignorance you're just perpetuating ignorance.

Then let's throw fred phelps in prison as an enemy combatant.

I think not. Even tho I think he and his ilk are hatefully insane in their bigotry.

But scum like him and his followers gave rise to the Patriot Guard Riders.

To throw someone in prison because they refuse to believe a certain 'history'/'dogma' goes against everything our nation used to stand for. Worldwide, we should be past the times of burning/prison for heresy.:fing27 Again, good on Hungary for shooting this down.:thumbup

I mean really. Most thinking people understand something really bad went down in Germany. Most thinking people also understand that 'history' can be the propaganda of the victors used to manipulate.

I bet there are still some survivors from those camps that would be willing to set someone straight in the fact that people were detained and abused.

But if a person still wants to deny anything ever happened, he shouldn't be locked up for it.
hehehehehehe... shunned perhaps :wtf: but not imprisoned.

I will say if we jailed every moron, there'd be a whole lot more breathing room around here:24::cool:D

Did y'all know they rewrote 1984? When I read that I popped over to Ebay and got an old one since I'd only blown through it in high school and after this last administration was curious to read it again..

I had to put it down about 50 pages into it... That was about 11mo ago. I need to finish it but I'm afraid ;)

Good to know electronic censorship is alive & well w/a Kindle:thumbdown. You'll read only what we want you to read.

:fing27

Gotta love olde books.

Amass a library like "V" had......... That movie kicked ass!

Was it updated to be a modern story?

The themes in V4V are powerful. It is said that the Wachowski Brothers made this film to protest the leadership of the Bush Administration. While Bush never made it as far as Chancellor Sutler (and I don't really believe he would want to), the movie does an excellent job of painting a country where security and control became more important than liberty and personal rights.

I'm not sure Minor Axis? I had read it was revised, like taking stuff out. Which made me curious all over again.

The Wachowski Brothers (thanks, I had no clue) did a hell of a job with it. Lots of great quotes in that movie. Like if your government were responsible for the deaths of 100's of thousands would you really want to know. Good question.....

Speaking of Dubya, I finally watched "W" the other day. I was surprised how it made me feel sad for him. Trying to prove himself to his dad his whole life since 'Jeb' was the 'rising star'. I wonder if Dubya has ever seen Lil Bush? Cuz they made Jeb out to be an idiot. I bet he'd get a kick out of that.

Personally, as someone who lives in Florida, I cannot stand the way Jeb ran our state into the ground (A Bush trait?). The only time he shined was after a hurricane. We, unlike LA, generally have our shit together.(No offense meant JanieDough) But then again, maybe it's cuz most people know enough to have 2 weeks worth of stuff on hand? Tho, you always have the clips on the news of the people w/fancy cars lined up for free water & ice bytching it's taking too long..... I guess they're too rich to stock up what they can get for free???????? But in NOLA's defense, we've never been flooded like that here. I'm not sure what would happen w/a 30ft storm surge? Most of Pinellas & half of Hillsborough county would be flooded out. We'd have many thousands of people put out of their homes also.... It's one of the reasons we got the heck inland. But think of the construction work after something like that. It could be a boon.... A sad boon, but a work boon no less. Which we desperately need since our tourisim dollars have dropped significantly w/the new security measures at airports. Our foreign guests tired of being treated as possible terrorists entering our country and decided to vacation elsewhere where they are treated as human beings instead. Can't really blame them there...... Perhaps one day sanity will return? Along w/people being able to afford to build homes again.....

*wonders if the coffee is ready in Dakota Jim's bar??**

p.s. Our Governor Charlie Crist isn't any better. In fact, he sucks too. I guess there aren't any politicians left who haven't completely sold out? How wonderful for us.

Holocaust deniers get voted into the EU parliment over here by racists, thickos and people who would rather be seen as racist than overly PC.
