after seven months on the job your team leader was to give their resignation? just found out that she tried to give her resignation but the big boss man said no (rejected, she put it) to her. how do you think that feels among the team, let alone the rest of the players?....it shows no faith and she wanted to bail because things aren't working out. I know the two of them were not getting along (clashing in how things done and no resolution or help from other team and their leaders) so, now that she has put that in the open, where do we go from here?

Can you reject a resignation? Surely you can't stop someone leaving a job they dislike?

Your co-worker is just an idiot, Patrick. That's why she accepted her boss "rejecting" her resignation.

You can't force people to work for you under duress, this isn't Soviet Russia.

yeah.....was thinking that after 23 years with the same company she shouldn't rush to judgement, at least ask to go back to her old office

Maybe she just tried to resign from her position as team leader, not the entire job :dunno

I would wonder why my boss thinks it makes sense to reject resignation and then I would think my coworker wasn't too bright for accepting that as an appropriate response.

Yeah, you can't really disallow someone from quitting...but if your co-worker accepts that, then that's on her.

Personally, her actions have nothing to do w/ you so I wouldn't feel anything. :dunno If thought many times about turning in my stripes and going back to a slick sleeve just b/c it's a lot less responsibility and a LOT more free time...but that's no reflection on my employees.

If she's not happy then there's nothing you can do about it. Obviously she wants out.
Sorry if the rest of the team doesn't like it but people have to do what they have to do.

I don't know how your boss can tell her no she can't quit...that's just evil of the boss.
I doubt there'd be much of a problem filling her position.

If I turned in my resignation and my boss refused to accept it, on the appointed hour of the appointed day of my leaving, I would do just that. However, if the person is simply resigning her position and wishing to go back down the ranks, the boss might have something to say there. Maybe it's; "Well, you either stay on as team leader, or hit the road." THAT can be done.
I'm still unsure as to exactly what this person is resigning.

I had a boss try that crap with me before. When I loaded my tool box on my truck I left and never looked back. Did have more than a few phone calls from HR and the plant super but I left the stress and crazy hours and look at it as one of the better decisions I ever made. Today that outfit has all but closed it's doors and only stays open to be able to put made in USA labels on their equipment.

There's a big difference between offering your resignation, and giving your resignation.

If you offer someone your resignation, it's an admittance usually that things aren't working, or working relations have deteriorated to an extreme; the offer of resignation gives the employer that message and then they have to make a choice. Perhaps negotiations on time-frame and compensation could happen.
Giving your notice just means you will serve out the period stipulated in your contract of employment and leave at the end of it.
