As a parent, it is very important for me not to buy nonsense items for my kids. However, shopping with children can become expensive and stressful. Kids tend to ask for everything they see, which makes it challenging for parents to stick to a budget. How do you manage it?

I don’t have kids, so I haven’t had to manage that challenge personally. But from what I’ve seen, planning ahead, making shopping lists, involving kids in choosing affordable options, and setting clear rules can really help save money while shopping with kids.

I’d plan ahead, set a strict budget, and involve kids by giving them small spending limits. If I had kids, I’d use shopping trips to teach money value, avoiding impulse buys with healthy distractions.

It is to give them a small budget and let them choose items within that limit. Encourage them to compare prices, look for sales, and make decisions based on value

This can work with preteens or teens but for those who are under 10, they don't know about the value of money and I don't think giving them the budget to spend can work.

I often face this question in my talks to parents or when counseling a family. They say that their child throws tantrums and has ongoing demands that they find very tough to control. For me, it has a lot to do with your parenting style. Children learn a lot through leaving and less or none through preaching. So, if you live a conscious life respecting money and sticking to your finances and budgets, your children will imbibe it. There is always an age appropriate way to communicate with your children about your finances, no matter how young they are. You just have to be creative around your talk. And if you are one who do not stick to their words and give up on every tantrum that your child throws, you are going to face the trouble more. Your children should get the message that you mean what you say.
