It's better to work out what's better for your body. People who are very active and therefore losing moisture for a lot of the day are going to need more liquids than some guy sat in an office chair. And it depends on the individual.
I drink maybe 3-4 glasses a day. I could probably stand to drink a little extra but if I tried to do eight glasses I'd probably drown.
a little tip...donnot drink more than enough water especially if you're working outside in the heat because the excess water will cause you to cramp and urinate when not necessary which will result in MORE water loss
