if someone says something like "I'l be home soon" what would be the time frame that pops into your head...meaning how long is soon to you.

Im just curious cause this has come up with me and bo a lot in the past so im curious as to others views on it. (tonight we were joking about it and he told me to look it up...so i went this way instead :D)

Hmm... well that all depends. :) You can be on vacation in another state, and say "Ill be home soon"...meaning in about a week or so! Or, you could be at the store and say Ill be home soon....meaning within an hour or so :)

I don't know Bo... but if I said that I'd probably be back in about an hour or so. I don't like going out to drink, so I'd only go and have one with my dinner there.

Anytime my husband says, "I'll be home soon" I always assume within the hour or so but EVERY time it is waaay later than an hour. Anywhere from 2 hours-4 hours.

Well speaking personally, it will most likely mean, when I've run out of money or when its kicking out time!;)

I guess the real answer to your question from experience is how long is a piece of string?

That ^^^ is just disrespectful and rude. To avoid this, ask for a specific time. (saying he'll be home soon has proven to just be lip service - don't buy it again)

Sorry about this reply, I was just joking without realising what was going on. In truth, I never say I'll be home soon, because I'm very literal and that phrase just seems so vague. Its true though that if I'm at the pub and the missus asks when I'll be back it will most likely be when I run out of money or its kicking out time though. I suppose at least I tell her that even if it does mean she's going to be pissed off at me.

She may be pissed off but at least you are being honest Peter.

For the guys: A little hint: it is better for a woman to be irritated that you are staying longer than she'd like for you to instead of her being pissed off because she feels she has been lied to by you. Just be honest.

Within a reasonable driving distance, to me this means within an hour to hour and a half.

Once you Bo goes past 90 minutes, he was bullshitting you in the first place to buy some time.

If I'm you and letting Bo play with "lil Kat" when he's been a good boy, then I follow up "I'll be home soon" from him with a "What time do you think that'll be?" And if acts like an ass at that point ("I said SOON, dammit") or is more than 20 minutes past the I'll-be-home-soon-time, then Bo's been a naughty boy and there's consequences.... ;)

I use the word "soon" usually when I'm in the car, on my way home (or somewhere else, like my parents' house) like "see ya soon"

If not, I always give a time, or an approximate lengths "be there in a half hour" etc..

My 'soon' is told meaning half hr to an hour and I always specify.

If 'soon' from a man is more than that then he is really taking the piss and not respecting the partner's concerns at all.

I say, too, a half an hour. What, is this bar 10 cities away?!
