While expectations can motivate at times, they can really put pressure on the family member. It is a good idea that you allow your family member to choose the path that s/he wants to take as long as it is not harmful to him/her. Do not control, as it can lead to resentment. What can you say?

Family expectations can shape happiness in deep ways. Supportive expectations can give structure, motivation, and a sense of belonging. But rigid or unrealistic demands often create guilt, anxiety, and pressure to live someone else’s life. Happiness tends to improve when expectations are flexible and allow room for individual values, choices, and growth.

Family and expectations can really be the source of mental pressure on people. It is always worse for firstborns because they are under pressure to act right and be good examples of character and success to the younger ones.

family members have a lot of expectations from one another and when these expectations aren't met, there will be dissatisfaction, as well as conflict.

Family expectations can shape happiness in both positive and negative ways. Supportive guidance can motivate and provide security, but unrealistic or rigid expectations may create stress, guilt, or pressure to conform, making it harder to pursue personal goals or feel satisfied with life.
