Pennies worth...

1> I'd go for reinstalling graphic libs, drivers etc from scratch.

2> Try running bf2 from a window instead of fullscreen. If you can run from a window but not fs then look towards video overlay and all that effect this. Try removing any video codec/filter packs you have installed then remove wmp. Windows libs run in approved working sets; commonly third party installations overwrite files in these sets to improve their performance... however in some cases this can bring instability to other apps.

3> Try using directx - use a different lib. If both OpenGL and directx libs are displaying the 'same' problem.. then look for the common ground. ie. driver. Do a sysinfo and mail to nvidia with your problem. btw you can d/l dx from ms.

4> Try taking down all effects to minimum config & building back up.

Try running 3d demos from nvidia to proove hardware/driver is capable. Try using demos with specific tasks. ie.. 3d dx. 3d ogl. lighting. etc..

5> To rule out windows libs all together... you could always try a linux dist.. ie.. knoppix ;burn the cd with the unix driver.. if it fails from there its hardware... if it works.. its ms libs.

Glucky..

heres what i would do in this situation, if the above suggestions dont work:

- remove anything related to nvidia and your graphics card.
- turn off the computer
- remove the graphics card
- put in the old card, or if there is onboard video, enable that in the bios on startup
- restart the computer ( this is where to enable the onboard video in bios, press the key the screen says you need to press to enter the bios setup utility )
- let windows boot up all the way ( if it asks for the drivers to the old card, just click cancel, you wont need them )
- turn off the computer
- take out old card and put in new card ( if onboard video was used, then disable in bios setup utility upon computer restart in the next step )
- restart computer
- let windows boot up, and same as the old card / onboard video step, dont allow windows to install any drivers, if it asks you.
- go to the nvidia site, and download the newest drivers
- run the download, and restart when it asks you to

btw, i just did this to update my drivers :D

Adding on to Lemon... from the 'hardware' aspect.

1a> Update system bios (check with your mobo manufacturer). Check readme for anything that 'may' effect video/io perf. After updating go into bios and if available select 'Optomised defaults' (reliability).

1b> Updating system bios often offers up new resources/features to the OS. Often virtual with new dmi handles. To make use of these you'll need to check for new OS level drivers to support them. With newer graphic cards; mobo manu's sometimes release special chipset drivers to benefit them.

1c> Check for any specific video bios performance settings with your mobo manufacturer. Check aperture size. Although video cards have onboard mem.. they still make use of system mem. If aperture is set too low your system may have problems drawing complex textures.

2> Did you install windows yourself or did it come preinstalled ? Check in resource manager drivers for system board resources. If the driver origin is MS then check with manufacturer for updates. If you installed MS, did you install a compatible HAL ?

3> Check for compatability issues with the card and your mobo. Try searching the net or check with mobo manufacturer's forum.

4> If at all possible try the card in another PC. At least you'll know you definately have a working card.

NB: Out of interest is your card PCI-X or AGP ? Make/model of mobo ? Make/Model of old and new video cards ?

Lastly... ...all else fails try bouncing some ideas off a fulltime tech forum.
More people the merrier as long as you get it sorted !

Glucky :cool

Sorry I haven't replied for a while on this stuff. Haven't had much time to try it out with finals and everything this week. Big thanks to lemon and anonyuntouchable for all their help. What I am starting to think is that it may just be a defective graphics card. its a Geforce 6800 and my old one was a Geforce 4. Its AGP if that makes any difference. I will try a few more things and if they don't work then I will either try a new card or something.

personally if your AGP i'd go with ATI x700 cuz it can easily be overclocked to 6800 status...if your PCI Express I'd go Geforce 6600 or higher.

hmm, agp is not really *supported* in a sense, now that it is not the new tech anymore, being that the pci-express is the rage now... but it is still very usable, and in some cases, even better in some areas that pci-express. so, should any other updates or information arise, let us know :cool

look here first

hp/compaq driver download area

but four different types of your Presario SR1010Z were found through searching at that hp/compaq drivers site, so look for a similar code on your computer to correlate to one of the four compaqs for the driver downloads.

note: the last two showed a nvidia unified graphics driver download ... so maybe your computer maybe one of the last two listed on the hp/compaq site...

and then if that doesnt solve the problem, try this:

look around for sis760 driver

The first one you gave me didn't work and I am not sure what do to with the second one. It gives me a winzip file and inside there are a lot of applications and such and I don't know which one to use.

Ok scratch that things are actually working. A guy on a different forum told me to get the 61.77 driver and for some odd reason that did the trick. I am not gonna let my guard down on it yet though. This may be a temporary thing. But thanks a lot for all your help!

yeah, apparently everyone wants the user base to upgrade as soon as possible, but that never happens, so when new drivers are released, some data and functions apparently are *forgotten* ...

well, chalk one up for the old drivers :booze

yup, thats why (when i used to play games more at least) if i had a problem with a game, the first (or one of the first) things i would do was check to see what the most popular drivers people were using for the game.
