Our Tenants showed us a wasp hive that has been in their car port for I don't know how long. It's HUGE. It's about the size of a basketball!!! :eek Joe took some pictures of it, real neat ones you can see inside the hive, we are going to try and knock it down in the garbage can early in the morning tomorrow-I'm taking tomorrow off.

What gets me is I drive a convertible and in this weather come in and out the garage all the time with the top down! I could have been stung many a time, I never noticed this hive.

If anyone has any other ideas about getting rid of this hive, let me know, I'll check back later tonite.

Bee seeing u.......(I know groan) :yuk

Dress appropriately. Knocking it down is only going to get them mad. Normally I'd suggest making a little flame thrower (ALWAYS worked for me), but if it's under a structure, well LOL I've always done my "disposal" at night when they seem to be dormant and less activity. Guess it would all depend on where the hive will be knocked down to on the ground on what you can do to it, but worse case, get a couple of wasp spray cans (like at least 4 of them, practice with one beforehand so you know it's range) and drench the snot out of it while on the structure.

Just keep your distance whatever you do. They're easily agitated like I'm sure anyone would be if you burnt or flooded their home.

WD40 and a lighter. Works everytime, and its fun

Relying on a "can pressure" such as WD40 and having to light it can be dangerous depending on the height/angle of the hive. Added that the hive is under a structure, not sure how smart it would be to light the hive while in it's current position. Would think that would be common sense, but you never know LOL

Seeings how the OP already said they were going to knock it down, one would think they will burn it after it's down...that to me is common sense.

Listen to Uncle Joe kiddies.

Spent a week in a burn unit (hey, at least it wasn't for some little wasp nest LOL). When playing with fire, it's NO fun if you make a mistake and they have to pull your skin off in a tub. On the plus side, the drugs were pretty good, but I wouldn't go through it again just for the drugs.

I got stung by a hornet a couple of weeks ago at work when we were clearing out an area with a nest nearby. Didn't see it until I'd been stung. My boss had this lovely stuff in a can that she sprayed at the nest. It got all foamy. It kills the hornets inside and then you can knock down and dispose of it in peace. No fire needed so it's carport safe. :D

Well it worked great! Joe got some wasp stuff in a can and I wore long sleeves and pants-he was in short sleeves and shorts, but as I said he never gets stung anyway.

I had a hose and when Joe said to I pointed it at the hive. We also had a garbage can directly underneath the hive that it fell into in pieces.

That wasp stuff, melted the hive but damn it took the whole can and then it only melted the bottom part. The wasps were angry but only about 12, I'd say escaped and I kept them sprayed with the water, then when the can of wasp stuff ran out Joe took over. It took a lot of hosing to knock the hive into the garbage can, they really built them tuff! But we did it and we didn't get stung!

We got some good pictures. I'm at work now and I'll try and load a pic of the wasp hive when it was intact on this post when I get home. Heck maybe I'll even load a risque one of me on the same roll of film, if I drink enuf :D LOL. Anyway mission accomplished!
