The first seed was Russia.
Team positioning didn't change for this tournament.
Truthfully no one expected the US to get where they were, but it was expected of them to medal.
It's a bigger deal Russia fell apart like they did. More so then the Americans making it to the gold medal game. Everyone was expecting it to be Canada Vs Russia for gold, and then the US battling for bronze with one of the other Euro teams.
Ron Wilson and Ryan Miller did a heck of a job getting them the gold medal game.
Now the Fins beating the Slovaks...that was a helluva surprise given Kippers total and utter cave in with the Yanks.
And let's not forget the ladies awesome win too.
Russia lost to Slovakia in the round robin and the US was undefeated...The US ended up being the overall number one seed.
I'm still completely shocked the Fins fell apart like they did. I really thought they'd be a bigger challenge and admittedly I was a little nervous. When they went up 6 goals in the first period...er...not so much.
You have to kind of laugh at the competition or lack thereof in women's hockey though. Really the only two teams in that tournament that are remotely competitive are the US and Canada...which is kind of surprising given the strength of mens hockey in Europe. You'd think they would also have solid womens hockey as well.
Hey PJers...sorry about Savard...that was a crap hit from Cookie...
