The first seed was Russia. :D
Team positioning didn't change for this tournament.
Truthfully no one expected the US to get where they were, but it was expected of them to medal.
It's a bigger deal Russia fell apart like they did. More so then the Americans making it to the gold medal game. Everyone was expecting it to be Canada Vs Russia for gold, and then the US battling for bronze with one of the other Euro teams.
Ron Wilson and Ryan Miller did a heck of a job getting them the gold medal game.
Now the Fins beating the Slovaks...that was a helluva surprise given Kippers total and utter cave in with the Yanks.
And let's not forget the ladies awesome win too.

Russia lost to Slovakia in the round robin and the US was undefeated...The US ended up being the overall number one seed.

I'm still completely shocked the Fins fell apart like they did. I really thought they'd be a bigger challenge and admittedly I was a little nervous. When they went up 6 goals in the first period...er...not so much.

You have to kind of laugh at the competition or lack thereof in women's hockey though. Really the only two teams in that tournament that are remotely competitive are the US and Canada...which is kind of surprising given the strength of mens hockey in Europe. You'd think they would also have solid womens hockey as well.

Hey PJers...sorry about Savard...that was a crap hit from Cookie... :(

I'm still holding out hope that the Flames can make the playoffs. :ninja
We have 2 games in hand!
We'll sewe what happens, although, I don't share your optimism, I don't see them making the play-offs this year. I'm seriously hoping they don't so as to get rid of some Sutters.
Dutter has gotten too much credit for '04, He can clearly coahc better then he can GM.
BUt we'll see how these final umpteen games pan out.

Tomorrow's game will be a big one. We play Detroit and they're a point ahead of us for that last spot right now.

that's the reason why I think the winner of the Cup will come from the Western Conference. Eastern conference is all about defense and trapping, while the West scores!
just like in the NFL offense sells tickets, defence wins championships

red wings are getting their guys back healthy - watch out

The Wings will be a force in the playoffs

They lost 3 significant players to free agency and were decimated by injuries. I think they have one of the all time best coaches of any sport in Babcock and they will make like difficult for those who oppose them if they finally stay healthy.

watch for sharks vs wings round 1, the wings could upset the sharks and if that happens, the sharks will sack just about everyone from GM down

in recent memory probably 94, mainly coz Messier deserved to captain a winning team, always liked him , that plus the 50 year wait for an NYR cup. From a neutral point of view it was exciting with NYR having a 3-1 lead then losing 5 and 6 to Vanc, i remember Mike Richter was simply outstanding in game 7, he won the cup for them IMHO
