History of OTZ? Why are you here?

Just curious as to how and why this forum got started. Seems like a lot of people have been hanging out here for a long while.

What brought you all here?

For me, I was playing with a tablet that I had bought and came across this site. Been somewhat bored lately and a little out of sorts, so I thought this could be a good distraction, and an outlet to let my other smart ass self out to play.

I just fancied a genal chat forum and this was the first one on google at the time.

Pretty much the same as Pete, it was the first entry for 'general chat forum' the forum I was on at the time was dying, and I wanted something new.

I got fed up with another forum, which seemed also to have too many emos on it

I used to use the arcade that was here, then i was told I had to register and become a member, so I did...best decision, ever...

Got fed up with another forum that was loaded with conservative Christian knuckle dragging asshats. All the mods were right wingers and would drop the hammer on anyone left of center or anyone who put up a good argument against anything they or their pals espoused.

Then went to another forum started by an off-shoot of the above forum. Same uptight dictatorial admin style except from the left. Hypocricy abounds it seems.

Much better here. Sure, there some drama anywhere you go, but this place is pretty fun most of the time. It's such that you can easily avoid the drama if you really want to.

Looks like quite a few refugees from other palces have found a home here.

I don't know why I'm here, just one of those things. As to how I found OTz, I just googled General Chat forums, and this was one that came up. I had a look at a couple of others but they seemed to be just standard fare, this was slightly different and I joined. Been here 3 years and 2 months now.

I actually passed this forum up a lot when I was forum hunting. I figured since it was the first or second hit on google it would be HUGE, so I didn't bother clicking. When I didn't find anywhere else, I finally clicked and was pleasantly surprised with the size =]

I got to add to my statement, when googling "offtopic" because I was googling around for the new one to join, there were (and still is) another forum with a similar name, so I clicked on the second one and the rest is history

Got stripped of my staff position on the forum HK mentioned because of some dumb bitch (that's my story and I'm sticking to it lol) so I never went back. HK mentioned here, and it's worked thusfar!

Also I knew quite a few people (eg BlackCherry, LeahLove etc) from another forum.

I'm here b/c of V...which most of you know. We've been friends for several years now and she sent me an e-mail inviting me to join. I didn't post for a long time and then, when she was in the process of getting divorced from her first husband, something happened and the server changed or something (I don't remember the specifics). I started posting on THAT site and got hooked...then migrated back over to here when the server issue got resolved. The rest is history.

Pretty much the same. I got sick of the same things John listed, especially The Queen Bee who had the staff wrapped around her hooters, so anybody who bucked her is pretty much damaged goods after that.

I was invited to join by Anie whom I knew from a hockey forum. We were partners in crime here for about 3 months and then she got herself banned. They couldn't get rid of me that easily.

I was looking for another forum to become active on, as I had the time, and despite a few AWOL's I'm still a known face here for some strange reason.

Seems like you have to work hard at getting banned around here
