For the record, I agree with the thread title 100%. Except for Eminem, I can tolerate him.

thats great dt3... *rolls eyes*
So let me get this straight. You can come in my country thread and say you don't like country, but I can't come in the hip hop thread and say I don't like hip hop?

it's not my thread Donnie... I didn't make it... And I named a few artist who were the exception. The thing that rubs me the wrongf way is how u immediately mention Eminem.... I don't know you personally but that gives a bad impression. It's not like I came into a thread and said all white music sucks or something.

So I'm racist for liking Eminem? Even though he's one of, if not THE, top selling rapper of all time? I didn't come in here and said I hate black music. In fact, besides Eminem the only other rapper I can stand is TI, but I haven't listened to any of his stuff in about 5 years so I didn't feel the need to mention it.

I can't begin to tell you how much your comment pisses me off. Telling you how I really feel is ALMOST worth losing being a mod over. Calling someone a racist for the music they like is beyond asinine, especially when you don't even know the person.

Well kind of. If I'm understanding Dana right, he really needs to stop pulling the race card. Liking white rappers doesn't mean a fucking thing. Whites can rap, rap isn't a black genre. Sure, maybe it was born from black people but so were quite a few genres, and people don't seem to be complaining about that and if they are, well they need to grow the fuck up because it doesn't matter. White people respectin' the genre (like Em) is good for the genre. We don't need a genre to be off limits to a race.

But if that's not what he meant, then he can just ignore this.

But I also don't agree with dt3 about his thoughts on rap, so there you go.

And Em used to be a beast. A top rapper. Not so much anymore, but maybe his new album will be great.

Rap is a good genre. But rappers like 50 Cent and Soulja Boy give rap a bad name.

I try to forget that Soulja exists. People need to stop buying into this crap. It might even go past the "it's so bad" territory into "it's so bad it's actually insulting."

50 Cent has had a few good songs. I dunno, I find people respectin' his early shit. My opinion of him is just that a lot of good beats have been wasted on him. But I like "Many Men" or whatever it's called. And Patiently Waiting but that's cuz of Em.

I don't know how I missed posting on this thread before but better late than never.
I love Hip-Hop, it's one of the music I listen to most times in my car at full blast.

Re: "IT'S JUST TALKING OVER MUSIC".....Well I guess it's kind of like talking over music in true but with a difference. There's an art in it. The poetic use of the words and style of flow....combined with an infectious beat/music is what does it for me.

Re "NO TALENT HACKS"
........Don't think for one minute it doesn't take talent 'cause it does. A successful hip-hop artist puts a lot of work into his/her work. What we see and hear are the results of who work very hard at their game, separating the sheep from the goat.

One of the positives I believe has come out of the popularity of the hip-hop generation is that it has encouraged a lot of youth to get into poetry or flow if you may. An art form which otherwise may have been lost to them were it not for the interest and popularity of hip-hop.

Here's a list of some of my favs:

• The notorious B.I.G R.I.P. (The big daddy of them all)
• EminfuckinM (Eminem BTW)....Poet extraordinaire - So many gems it's ridiculous.
• Jay to the Z
• Puffy aka P.Diddy aka Diddy aka Sean Coombs...or whatever other name - Master entrepreneur from young. (Gave us BIG)
• Mike friggin Jones.....Mike Jones Mike Jones. :D (can't help repeating his name, it's his trademark).
• DMX
• Trick Daddy
• D-12
• Missy Elliot (git er freak on)
• Lil' Wayne
• Bone Thugs n Harmony
• Not forgetting--->Dr Dre (gave Eminem a launch pad)
• Busta Rhymes
• Tone Loc (2 hit wonder) - Wild Thing (who wouldn't like that?)

Obdurate, or as I affectionately call you "Obstinate", I had created a thread dedicated to hip-hop in the music section. Some of my favs are there. I'd be privileged if you would check it out and maybe even post some of yours. It may give me an incentive to put some more even. Just a few of us contributed of course as you will see, but nevertheless some real gems in there.

Edit: And Ziggy (to check out thread)

:mad Bite your tongue you Obstinate you.

EminfrigginM is the bomb - Was and still is. He's just taking a lil well deserved break is all, thank you.

BTW, hear this. I don't hardly EVER EVER EVER remember my dreams but last night I dreamed that Em was performing some new songs. Just so I remember dreaming this this morning when I woke up. The bits I remember were that it was good songs. This came to mind as I saw the thread and Em's name. Weird that I remembered that dream.

lol I'm sorry, man.

Infinite - Really well written but you can tell he was young and didn't find his flow yet. Still very good.
Slim Shady LP - Perfect album.
Marshall Mathers LP - Great album.
The Eminem Show - Fuck it, great, except not as great cuz there's a few stinkers.
Encore - Some amazing songs but mostly forgettable.

When I'm Gone is fantastic. FACK fucking sucked. Shake That... well it's okay...

Still, I'm pumped for his new album. He still has it in ways, but I doubt he has the fire that he spit on his first two albums. Fair enough, I just hope he doesn't try to fake it.

Oh and about hip hop and it's popularity/influence. Rap poetry is actually my favourite type and I think hip hop and punk are a lot alike because they're both um... punk. Or maybe they're both hip hop. My point is, they came from the poor, and originally formed as a counter-culture. They're both resistance. That's why it's kind of sad that it's been diluted so much. Remember when hip hop was a threat? I do.

Edit: I mean threat in a good way.

You're forgiven. :D

And yes, I remember when hip-hop was considered a threat in the earlies because of its roots.

Speaking of "When I'm gone" here's the vid I posted on that thread I referred to you. Now if this isn't classic I don't know what is. Eminem, the master lyricist, straight from the heart:
