Exactly...plus when you factor in slang and idioms, it just gets all the more complicated.

I have heard that American English is the hardest to learn, with all our tricks and bells and whistles.....

European languages are derived from Latin and they all have some root in the Latin language.... we use too many colourful metaphors....

So is this the time when I brag that I am fluent in 4 languages and that English is actually my 4th and that all know I learned form watching TV?

but television is a good learning tool.....I know that my generation was plopped down in front of the TV with Sesame Street, Mr. Rodgers, electric Company etc. they realized that we could be taught by the television and it was a good baby-sitter

Yep, by the time we had to start learning German and English in school I was already fluent in both - at age 9 I went and had an argument with the teacher that it was NOT how you pronounce a certain word and she just sent me outside so I could "cool down" ... never mind that I was RIGHT hehe

and once we had the homework to write out every unknown word for us out of a text - The teacher went around and checked the homework. when she come to me I presented her with a blanck notebook. She asked me why I didn't do my homework - I told her that I knew every single word int he text so I don't need to write out anything.
She got pissed at me and called me out to the backboard, and asked me EVERY SINGLE word in the text, and when I knew all of it she then asked me words that were not even in the book - I knew all of it. SCORE!!!

And I am learning my 5th language :)
My dream is to be fluent in 10 languages:D
