Arron wanted to get into a house where a secret meeting was being held, but he didn't know the password. He watched from the bushes as two other men were let in. The first man knocked on the door, and when the person behind the door said, "twelve," he answered, "six," and was allowed in. The second man, when the person behind the door said, "six," answered, "three," and was let in.
Arron thought he had the password challenge figured out, so he knocked on the door. From the other side, he heard, "ten." He replied, "five," but wasn't allowed to enter. How should he have answered?

I have two children who went through advanced programs all through school. They were daily given those type exercises to think outside the box to broaden their minds. My son was particularly good at them. When he walked into his advanced class there was a brain teaser on the board similar to yours. He would walk in look at it and walk to the teacher's desk and whisper the answer because it gave other kids a chance. The teacher commented to us he was the only child she ever taught who was able to do that on every brain teaser she came up with.
