In 2004 my son went with "People To People" to The British Isles. On the trip he wore his contact lenses too long or got something under one that irritated his eye. He was diagnosed with an ulcerated cornea and spent almost a week in a hospital in Wales. When we got him home he was treated for it by a local Eye doctor.

Yesterday he was complaining that he felt like he had something in his eye and it was red and painful. He is at college about an hour away. We talked and decided he needed to see an eye doctor as quickly as possible. He has another ulcer on the same cornea. The doctor seems to feel we caught it early enough it should clear up quickly.

I certainly hope it clears quickly for him. He really cannot afford to miss classes during the summer semester.

My brother used to have awful problems when he wore contacts. He got laser eye surgery a few years ago so he doesn't need glasses or contacts now, best thing ever for him.

Hope he feels better Fred!

That's why the summer semester sucks, you're pretty much doomed if you miss more than 1-2 classes.

I had eye problems from wearing contacts too long. It wasn't a corneal ulcer though. They just diagnosed it as overuse of contact lenses. I didn't have a tear or anything but my eye was very blurry. It was like the contact took oxygen out of my eye. It took a long time to clear up though. Hope it gets better for him soon.

He does not wear his contacts a lot. The doctors have never seemed to feel the contacts were the real issue.
